F150 choke thermostat has sparks what is the problem

I would disconnect the electric feed from this choke unit. Sparks and fuel vapor are a bad combination. The heating element inside the black choke cover is shorted.

You should be able to get a new element at an autoparts store. Make sure you position the choke spring properly on the lever inside the case. Some use a loop in the spring to fit over the lever and some have a spring which fits between the small slot in the lever.

As for the sticking, check the action without the choke spring attached. The unloader in the choke system has a small piston which is drawn by vacuum. The rebuild instructions mention how to adjust or clean this passage.

I hope my solution is helpful.

I have engine from 1984 ford crown victoria. it isnota a302 ci. i was told it is a 351 windser when i brought it. how many engine size came with the 1984 crown vic? or what engine do i have?

Crown Victorias that year came with two engine options.
The regular Crown Vic had a 302 cubic inch engine.
The Police version had a 351W.
The 351W is a much better, stronger engine.
The easiest way to tell at a glance is to see if you can access the bottom thermostat housing bolt with a socket. If you can it's a 351W. If you can only get a wrench on that bolt, then it's a 302.

What all do you need to do to convert a 1992 ford 5.0 out of an f150 from fuel injection to a Carb.? I know that you need a carb, intake, and fuel pump. I'm putting this motor in my 1984 mustang it had a...

There are special electronic fuel pumps you can get for this kind of conversion that wont put to much fuel pressure in the carb and blow the bowls.
As long as the distributer is vacuum advance and for a 302 it should be able to work. The main difference will be the firing order on the truck engine may be different. So you have to make sure your #1 cylinder is at top dead center and route the post on the cap its pointing at to the #1 cylinder and go from there.
The intake and carb you have should also work.

I have an '84 F-150 with a 302 with factory 2bbl carb. My problem is gas mileage. I don't expect 20 mpg but 8 mpg stinks. I have a little white smoke in the cold mornings but goes away after 5 min. The...

If it has high miles you my want to check the timing. The chain will have slack by then and throw the timing off some. Check that choke too. If it doesn't open all the way after the engine is warm it will make the engine run rich and burn more gas.

My 1984 Ford F-150 V8 302 choke is not working?

Your choke should have a spring at the bottom under a little cover with a rod coming up and connecting to the butterfly for the choke. Usually this get a little corroded and sticks, you need to clean the pieces so that they rotate freely and the rod will move up and down. It is adjusted on some models by bending the rod to make it longer or shorter. When you push down the gas pedal for the first time in the morning it should set the choke, test this by opening the throttle while its cold out, once the throttle is opened the choke should close, once the engine is running there is a vacuum operated linkage that should pull it back some, until the engine is warm. Again if this worked before, its probably dirty so a good cleaning is in order. Hope this helps, let me know
