Let's start by telling you how to diagnose the problem.

Most oil leaks are easily located and repaired by visually finding the leak and replacing or repairing the necessary parts. On some occasions a fluid leak may be difficult to locate or repair. The following procedure may help in locating and repairing most leaks.

Finding the Leak

? Identify the fluid, determine whether it is engine oil, automatic transmission fluid, power steering fluid, etc.
? At what location or point is the fluid leaking from? After running the vehicle at normal operating temperature, park the vehicle over a large sheet of paper, After a few minutes, you should be able to ascertain the approximate location of the leak by the drippings on the paper.
? Visually check around the suspected component. Check around all gasket mating surfaces and hoses for leaks. If your car provides engine oil cooling, check the oil lines leading to the radiator. A mirror is useful for finding leaks in areas that are hard to reach. If the leak still cannot be found, it may be necessary to clean the suspected area with a degreaser, steam or spray solvent. Most car washes provide this service or make it possible for you to do it yourself. Clean the area well, then dry the area. Operate the vehicle for several miles at normal operating temperatures and varying speeds. After operating the vehicle , visually check the suspected component. If you still cannot locate the leak, try using the power method.


The Powder Method

? Clean the suspected area.
? Apply an aerosol-type powder, e.g., face powder, to the suspected area.
? Operate the car under normal operating conditions.
? Visually inspect the suspected component. You should be able to trace the leak path over the white powder surface to the source.

Ok ralph first off clean motor with engine brite found at any auto parts stores
next recommendation add oil base dye to motor oil allow to run for 30 min to circulate dye useing a uv lamp or black light and inspect front cover most cases the front seal is themost likely source of leaks due to contant revolutions on front main seal
in order to repar suspected seal total dissasembly of timing cover will have to be removed in some models the front main bearing journal will have to be removed as well.

If you looked at the motor & it's accy's
well enough, to NOT see any oil,it still has
to come from somewhere

We can not look for you,so what is the from

Motor Oil?
Trans Fluid -drive axle seals?
Power Steering-you checked the ties rod boots?

I'm guessing you did not raise the car up,support it
& spend time really looking at much

2002 sunfire ecotec blowing out oil from front of engine


The front of engine is usually where the serpentine belt is located. The side of the engine toward the front of vehicle is different. I'm not trying to split hairs, Just trying to understand? Is it coming out in the area of the belt?
When you had it on the ramps, was the engine running? One thought is too much crankcase pressure?
There is, the oil filter could leak, oil pan gasket, head gasket. Is there oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil? It's tough to find a leak if it isn't leaking when you check it.

Oil leak front engine timing chan


1995 Tracker would have a timing BELT. Normal oil leak points (in order) on a Suzuki G16 engine are the distributor base (rear of motor), valve cover (top of motor), front main seal (behind lower timing belt cog) cam seal (behind the upper timing belt cog) and rear main seal. (behind the flywheel). I'd suspect the front main seal or cam seal. I use foot power to help find oil leaks.

Oil Is Leaking Out Under The Harminc Balancer On my 92 Jeep Wrangler,4.0 6cyl. I Replaced The Main Seal & Put A New Balancer On & It Still Leaks From The Bottom Of The Balancer


  1. timing cover is leaking oil betwwen cover and block
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the drive belt(s), fan and fan shroud. If equipped, remove the accessory drive belt pulley.
  4. Remove the vibration damper retaining bolt and washer. Remove the vibration damper using a suitable puller.
  5. Remove the accessory drive brackets attached to the timing cover.
  6. Remove the A/C compressor, if equipped, and alternator bracket from the cylinder head and move to one side.
  7. Remove the oil pan-to-timing case cover bolts and the cover-to-cylinder block bolts.
  8. Remove the timing case cover front seal and gasket from the engine.
  9. Cut off the oil pan side gasket end tabs and oil pan front seal tabs flush with the front face of the cylinder block. Remove the gasket tabs.
  10. Clean the timing case cover, oil pan and cylinder block gasket surfaces.
  11. Remove the crankshaft seal oil seal from the cover by prying it out with a suitable tool.

To install:

  1. Install a new seal in the timing cover using a suitable seal installation tool.
  2. Apply sealer to both sides of the replacement cover gasket and position the gasket on the cylinder block. Cut the end tabs off the replacement oil pan gasket corresponding to those cut off the original gasket. Attach the end tabs to the oil pan with sealer.
  3. Coat the front cover seal end tab recesses generously with sealer and position the seal on the timing cover.
  4. Apply engine oil to the seal-oil pan contact surface, then position the cover on the cylinder block.
  5. Insert timing case cover alignment tool J22248 or equivalent, in the crankshaft opening. Install the cover-to-cylinder block bolts and tighten them to 62 inch lbs. (7 Nm). Install and tighten the oil pan-to-cover bolts to 11 ft. lbs. (13 Nm).
  6. Remove the cover alignment tool and position a replacement oil seal on the tool with the seal lip facing outward. Apply a light coat of sealer to the seal and a light coat of oil to the crankshaft. Install the seal on the timing cover.
  7. Apply a light film of oil to the vibration damper hub seal contact surface. Install the vibration damper using a suitable installation tool.

Do not hammer the damper into place as damage may result to the damper or engine.

  1. Install and tighten the crankshaft vibration damper bolt to 80 ft. lbs. (108 Nm).
  2. If equipped, install the crankshaft pulley and tighten the bolts to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
  3. Install the accessory brackets.
  4. Install the fan and fan shroud.
  5. Install the drive belt(s) and adjust to the proper tension.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable.
  7. Start the engine and check for leaks
  8. .

Oil leaking from under the front of the motor. Have had both manifold gaskets changed, yet still have a leak. Now the starter is full of oil and I have to replace it


the manifold gaskets role in an oil leak? oil under the car i would be thinking about a front or rear crankshaft seal or the oil pan, or the oil pressure sender unit. if there is oil on the sides of the engine i would look to the valve cover gaskets.

Where is the oil pan drain plug on a 2005 sunfire


A 2003-05 Sunfire most likely has the Ecotec 2.2 motor. The filter is a cartridge element type which is located on the forward side of the engine on the drivers side; (below and slightly left of the power steering reservoir).

The oil filter is located under (inside) a black cover about 3-4 inches around and has a large hex head nut molded on top of it, to fit a socket on it. When replacing the oil filter element, press the tipped O-ring side of the filter down into the filter cavity until it locks in place. Then place the cover on top and tighten it.

The cover will automatically lock onto the top section of the oil element as it is being tightened. The drain plug is pretty standard and on the oil pan. However, most people are accustomed to a metal oil pan, and when viewing the Ecotec motor they confuse the metal TRANSMISSION pan as the motor oil pan.

The motor oil pan is actually aluminum, and looks like a continuation of the upper motor. For that reason, you don't "see" an oil pan. Knowing this fact, the oil drain plug is now easy to locate. Look at the far passenger side of the metal transmission oil pan. Now look at the very front of that section of the transmission oil pan and follow that ''line of sight'' until you reach the bottom of the aluminum motor (''oil pan''). The oil drain plug is right there, with it's head facing towards the transmission oil pan.

The drain plug (on a 2005 Sunfire) requires a 15mm wrench/socket; and has a built in rubber seal, which should be lubricated with oil before tightening.

Well If you did happen to get Brake fluid in your Engine some how. The gaskets you would need would be the valve cover gasket, head gasket,Header gasket, Waterpump gasked, Front and rear main seals,and Thermostat gasket.
