The toyota diesel does not survive over heating very well, you need to check the compression, we see the piston rings brake after an overheat condition, and there is not enough compression for the engine to run, we also see a ton of cracked cylinder heads after an overheat. also make sure the valve timing has not jumped, but best guess is broken rings, most of the time you can remove the oil fill cap and turn the engine over and see if there is excessive crank case blow by if there is you will need to replace the piston rings or engine.

the fuel system is very basic and only has one power control to the fuel cut off, if that wire is hot wile cranking the engine then there is nothing wrong with the ignition circuit, there is a small chance that there could be a problem with the injection pump, and i can give you a few tests for the pump but you need to check the compression first.

let me know if there is any thing else i can do for you.

if your model is equiped with glow plugs then you will need to remove the glow plugs and install the comperssion gauge in the glow plug hole if you model does not have glow plgs then you will need to remove the fuel injectors and install the compression gauge in th injector hole.

You need to perform a compression test to verify mechanical intergirty of the engine. Given that it has overheated at least twice from you have stated, it is possible that the head gasket has been damaged and requires replacement. Check your oil and see how it looks. If there is water in the oil system, you will need a head gasket. 1. check the oil 2. if the oil is good, run a compression test. Let me know what you find.

That's good to hear that the compression is good however, this means that the fuel injection pump has failed. These need to produce very high pressure to be atomized. I think that you will find the pump injecting but at very low pressure causing the issue. Have it tested and let me know.

The compression test requires the use a compression guage designed for diesel engines as the compression defference in gas and diesel engines is signifacant. Atypical gas engine will have a redaing of about 150 psi and a diesel will have a reading of about 300psi. The glow plugs should be removed and the guage adapter installed. Crank the engine for about 3-4 seconds and take the reading. This is going to likely need a head gasket change.

That's awesome. Congrats on getting going. Blue smoke??!! Has someone accidentaly put petrol in the tank? Does it begin to clean up after warming up? Does it warm up too much?

The injector pump is dying then. It is internally damaged and requires attention. The easiest way is to have someone rebuild the unit. From what I know of these vans, you have a real reliable and worthy vehicle. Definately worth getting fixed.

Overheating when driving

Sounds like the water pump fins aren't doing their job. I suggest changing the water pump. Been there, done that. Bad pump.

I got a chrysler sebring 2006 and its overheating. i changed the theromastat and still the same thing. if i change the water pump, will it mess up the timing?

done properly it shouldn't. While it is difficult the water pump can normally be changed without pulling the timing belt. Although this is not always true. I highly recommend you get the Haynes Repair manual on that vehicle before starting this repair. There are step by step instructions with photos of the work so you can see the proper alignment. If you are going to have to remove the timing belt I recommend you take the time to go ahead and replace it. Since there will be specific steps to align the Crank and Cams to make sure the timing stays correct.

I changed water pump and timing belt started and let run for ten minutes and it just died and will not start . I change crank and cam sensors and still wont start i checked the timing marks are right on

sounds like you didn't get the cooling system filed all the way and it overheated. Does it have spark? Doesit have fuel in the fuel tank? What kind of car or truck is it. Is it a desiel or gas? Auto or Stick? Year make and model engine size turbo or not what country are you in I'm in the USA. Too many right answers that are the wrong answer for your car or truck. What have you got?

We repair our Toyota Lucida automatic transmission because in runs on reverse only. Our problem now is that it will start to move forward only, once the engine RPM was between 1800 to 2000. Another thing,...

The problem concerning low gear locked up sounds like a bad primary shift solenoid (located on the valve body internally) the other issue with the forward gear only engaging with the rpm up to 1800 could be inadequate hydraulic pressure (a transmission front pump issue), most likely there is no problem with the pump if when shifting the selector lever into reverse it engages quickly and normally. This may be a transmission computer issue and I would recommend having the dealership do a diagnostic check on the transmission to eliminate the computer as a culprit. transmission problems are very difficult to figure out and before spending a lot of money get the electrical diagnostic done first.
