How do i fix electric window that refuses to work

is there 12v at the switch... assuming there is and the switch is fitted correctly you will probably have to remove the door card to access the regulator (motor and mechanism). This can be a fiddly operation and knowledge of locations of screws and fasteners is essential to ensure you do not cause damage to the door and or door card and any items such as speakers. With that being said it is an easy enough job to remove regulator and replace. Sometimes the problem is only a snapped cable, but most garages will usually replace whole unit as snapped cables often cause motor damage.

Driver side window won't go up. Sounds like gears

Most likely the window regulator (cables & pullys). Replace the regulator.
