Question about 2003 Ford Ranger Regular Cab

Ranger 2003 ranger 3.0 stalls when accelerating

I have replaced everything on this thing from fuel filter to air filter, mass air flow sensor, coil pack, wires and plugs, cam position sensor. I am baffled and dont know where to look for the problem now. I have had the fuel pump out to replace it too bu when I went to put the new one in it was the wrong one. they sold me one that wasnt for flex fuel. Parts are hard to come by for this thing where i live. The truck runs great except for when you accelerate hard taking off or passing someone. Then it cuts out, rpms drop and it comes back over and over until you let off. It doesnt do it all of the time. It can do it really bad one day and not at all the next. I drove it about 140 miles yesterday with no problems. Go again today and it does it terrible. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated....

    The check engine light has never come on and yes I have tried having the codes read by my mechanic. He says there is no codes displaying. I dont know if this is true but he says that the check engine light has to come on for it to throw codes.. Of coarse the stupid thing wouldnt act up when i left it with my mechanic so he just thought I was crazy. That is why i started replacing some of the more inexpensive parts thinking i might get lucky and fix it myself.....

    In neutral and rev to about 3 to 4 K rpm it drops power pack and forth.

I guess I have to ask is the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON? I have seen a crack in the air intake hose that only opens up on hard acceleration because of the engine torque Im sure you looked at that, just mentioning it.
Has a TPS been check don't just replace parts test then replace sure its slower but sure is less expensive and you learn something too.
If the engine light is on, get the code then contaact me and Ill tell you how to TROUBLESHOOT AND DIAGNOSE NOT JSUT CHANGE PARTS

p0304 = Number 4 Cylinder Misfire Detected

Faulty spark plug 4
Clogged or faulty fuel injector 4
Faulty ignition coil 4
Fuel injector 4 harness is open or shorted
Fuel injector 4 circuit poor electrical connection
Ignition coil 4 harness is open or shorted
Ignition coil 4 circuit poor electrical connection
Insufficient cylinder 4 compression
Incorrect fuel pressure
Intake air leak

The P0304 code means that the cylinder 4 is misfiring or is randomly misfiring. Start by checking for intake leaks an if no leaks are found the next step is to replace the spark plugs on cylinder 4.


p0102 = Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Low Input

Faulty mass air flow sensor
Intake air leaks
Dirty mass air flow sensor
Dirty mass air filter
Mass air flow sensor harness is open or shorted
Mass air flow sensor circuit poor electrical connection

Before replacing the mass air flow sensor, try replacing the air filter and cleaning the air flow sensor with low compress air or mass air flow sensor cleaner.
Reset code and drive vehicle.
If the code comes back, it may be necessary to replaced the mass air flow sensor.


p0154 = O2 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected Sensor 1 Bank 2

Faulty Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2
Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 harness is open or shorted
Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 circuit poor electrical connection
Inappropriate fuel pressure
Faulty fuel injectors
Intake air leaks may be faulty
Exhaust gas leaks

Replacing the Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 usually takes care of the problem.


p0113 = Intake Air Temperature Sensor Circuit High

Faulty Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor
Dirty air filter
Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor harness is open or shorted
Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor circuit poor electrical connection

The Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor is built into mass air flow sensor or in some vehicles mounted to the air filter duct housing. The sensor detects intake air temperature and transmits a signal to the Engine Control Module (ECM).The temperature sensing unit uses a thermistor which is sensitive to the change in temperature. Electrical resistance of the thermistor decreases in response to the temperature rise. The Intake Air Temperature signal is used as an input for various systems in the vehicle.

2003 f/250 5.4 I've replaced the cat ,Mac,tps,IAC,fuel filter ,plugs ,and packs it iddles but when you push the accelerator it stalls spits & sputters


Check your mass air flow sensor and all vacuum hoses for leaks, your mass air flow sensor is located somewhere on the intake hose between the air filter box and manifold. Maybe loose wires maybe bad airflow sensor, could just be dirty, could even be timing advance or other sensors. Read codes from computer and go from there but likely something simple.

ok lets start with the codes they say your getting. P??? which 1's and how many. there are few o2 sensors, are they next to the Exhaust next to the converter? MASS AIR FLOW -MAF use this, for now i am guessing, until i see the correct codes your are getting. this could be the 1 you may have below, please read it........

going to ask a scary question, no insult intended. have you checked the OIL when was it last changed. Air filter fuel injected system uses air filter was it changed last... fuel filter, not sure how many it has, may want to have that checked. spark plugs have them checked look at them, they maybe fowled. so here is a link that address the issue.....

air flow mass sensor is flowed up dirt gets in and causes it to respond very slow... good luck..........

MY CAR IS CUTTING OUT WHILE DRIVING


many thing cause engine stall out while driving faulty mass air flow sensor. stopped up fuel filter,faulty fuel pump check fuel pump fuse and relay.faulty alternator look for lose wires on alternator or ignition coils to module.faulty PCM. best code scan vechicle first before buy new parts but first thing to do replace fuel filter see if problem still occurs.

My 94 ford ranger has poor acceleration in every gear change have already changed fuel filter and about to change plugs any thing else in could check


If it has a Mass Air flow sensor in the iar intake, clean the internal parts (heated Wires) with carb cleaner. Do not brush.

I have a 1995 ford taurus engine stalls when idling and smells of gas when accelerating it bucks. Changed fuel filter, could it be mass air flow sensor?


Start with smaller problems and check the fuel pressure regulator, the mass air flow sensor for these vehicles is pretty pricy. Is the check engine light on? If so, head to your nearest auto zone and have them check for trouble codes. If the check engine light isn't on, its not likely your mass air flow sensor
