I have high voltage at the coil out put....ICM test ok have not checked crank sensor... will not start fuel supply ok

High voltage at the coil means nothing. Hook it to a plug and hook a timing light to that cylinder. If during cranking the timing doesn't flash, you still have ignition problems. Note, it must flash during cranking. Hold trig down.

2004 chevy impala start car runs about10 minutes then stalls new fuel pump when stalls cut out like running out of gas then don't start till cools off if electical to me would cut out instantly help


Not if ignition module . Electronic componets when heated up will act just like that . When it dies check spark, fuel pressure right away an find out what quit . Test don't guess . Videos on youtube on testing GM ignition system. Which engine does yours have ? Had option of two different ones . 3.4 an 3.8L . Ignition module or cranhshaft position sensor could be the cause .
Three dual tower ignition coils are mounted to the ICM, and are serviced individually. The ICM performs the following functions:
• The ICM supplies a power and low reference circuit to the CMP and CKP sensors.
• The ICM determines the correct direction of the crankshaft rotation, and cuts spark and fuel delivery to prevent damage from backfiring if reverse rotation is detected.
• The ICM determines the correct coil triggering sequence, based on how many 18 X ON-OFF pulses occur during a sync pulse. This coil sequencing occurs at start-up, and is remembered by the ICM. After the engine is running, the ICM will continue to trigger the coils without the CKP sync pulse.
• The ICM inputs 18 X and 3 X reference signals to the PCM.
• The 3 X reference signal is also known as the low resolution engine speed signal. This signal is generated by the ICM using an internal divide-by-six circuit. This circuit divides the 18 X signal pulses by 6. This divider circuit will not begin operation without a sync pulse present at start-up, and without 18 X and 3 X reference signals no fuel injection will occur.

DTC P1351 Ignition Coil Control Circuit High Voltage
The enhanced ignition system uses the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor in order to provide a timing input to the control module. Ignition control (IC) spark timing for each cylinder is based on this input. The control module provides the ignition timing signal to the ignition control module (ICM) to control the ignition coil. Each timing pulse detected by the ICM allows it to energize the ignition coil. A large secondary ignition voltage is induced in the secondary coil by the primary coil. This high voltage is switched to the correct spark plug by the distributor.
This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) will set if the VCM- (vehicle control module ) detects an unusually high voltage on the ignition timing signal circuit.
Diagnostic Aids
Intermittent test -- If the connections and the harness check OK, monitor a digital voltmeter connected between VCM terminal C3 pin 9 and C4 pin 18 while moving related connectors and wiring harness. If the failure is induced, the voltage reading will change. This may help to isolate the location of the malfunction.
An intermittent may be caused by any of the following conditions:

A poor connection

Rubbed through wire insulation

A broken wire inside the insulation
Thoroughly check any circuitry that is suspected of causing the intermittent complaint. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems.
If a repair is necessary, refer to Wiring Repairs or Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Need to know why won't get no spark...changed ignition module, ignition coil, cap and rotor still not firing. ....any ideas


What make vehicle ? year an model too ! Before you replaced those parts did you check for battery supply voltage an check the ground for those components ? You need to get a wiring diagram an see what get's voltage an what is ground ! An see what all is involved , crankshaft position sensor , ECM / PCM -engine computer etc...! Then you need a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter to test ! Your looking for a quick fix an doesn't work like that !

No fire but replaced crank censor,cam censor,ignition control module and coil packs.theft light isn't on and getting fuel


With key on, is your check engine light on- meaning, is the pcm powered up? My answer would be to buy a digital volt ohm meter (DVOM), any automotive multi-meter today is just that, cheapest one you can find, and just start using it. You can use it and learn at the same time.

A voltmeter is the best way to diagnose the ignition system for anybody working on their own car. If you own a 1996 or newer model, even better to have a good scanner available, a scanner and a DVOM. But all ignition systems require that the ignition coils be supplied with battery voltage anytime the ignition is on. And it's on anytime you have the key in on.

Start here by testing if the coil pack has a hot wire to it with the key in on. Electricity is funny, it can be found at a point not doing anything, but constantly available. Just like it is always there at the coil primary circuit- voltage is going to and through the coils, and to ground inside the ICM. It is when the icm gets a signal from the sensors or the pcm to break contact on the primary circuit, that high voltage goes out the coil's secondary windings to the spark plugs. It's got to have that input voltage, though. With a meter and a wiring diagram and a repair manual, you can fix AND save.

Probable Causes: Fuel Pump (P0230 to P0233) PCM (P0600 to P0606) Crank Sensor (P0355 to P0399) Fuel Pressure (P0190 to P0194) Chances are the Check Engine Light is not on, but you may find any of the following codes: P0230 to P0233 Fuel Pump codes P0600 to P0606 PCM related codes P0335 to P0339 Crank Sensor codes P0190 to P0194 Fuel Pressure Sensor codes No spark due to a bad crank position sensor, a faulty ignition module or PCM, a problem in the ignition circuit (ignition switch, antitheft system, wiring, etc.), a faulty park/neutral safety switch, a bad ignition coil (only on engines with a single coil ignition), or wet plugs or plug wires (did it rain last night, did you just wash the engine?) A less common cause is a worn starter that draws so many amps while cranking the engine that there's not enough juice left to adequately power the ignition system and fuel injectors. Contributing factors might be a weak battery and/or loose or corroded battery cables. No fuel because of a dead fuel pump, bad fuel pump relay, blown fuel pump fuse, plugged fuel filter or line, or failed PCM injector driver circuit or injector power supply relay. Or, the fuel tank might be empty (don't believe what the gauge is telling you), or the fuel tank might contain contaminated fuel (water or too much alcohol) or the wrong type of fuel (whoops, somebody put in diesel instead of gasoline). No compression because the timing belt or chain is broken, the timing belt or chain is loose and jumped out of time, or the overhead camshaft has snapped.

If any of the ignition components fail, you should get a check engine light and a trouble code for that component.
