Question about Mitsubishi Eclipse
You didn't include the year of the car so some things may not apply.
You probably have an 'Idle air control' that is either not operating or has a clogged passage.
The throttle position sensor may be bad.
I would call the nearest chain auto parts store and ask them if they can scan your make and year of Eclipse. There may be a stored error code that will point to the problem device.
To avoid spending funds on unnecessary shop time, you might want to consider investing in a service manual that may help you when finding a problem such as this.
