Yes it possible that vacuum leak is there or vacuum hose is loose in the engine compartment. But there are many other possibilities too. That are, low coolant, faulty coolant temperature sensor.Faulty spark plugs, Other possibility--- what's causing your car to run sluggishly when it's hot is that it's pulling in hotter air. when the air temp outside the car gets hot, the air under the hood gets even hotter than normal. And this causes the problem.Get the fuel pressure checked. In some cases its seen that faulty fuel pump gets expended in warn weather and this causes fuel pump to loose its pressure and fuel delivery gets slow and this causes the car engine to run sluggish. Also get the air intake pipe.------------ this should help.thanks.Helpmech.

Rewiring entire 1971 el camino interior and under the hood

Wow, quite an undertaking. I had an '81 El Camino and wish I had never sold it. Originally it had a 267 c.i. V-8 with a Rochester 2bbl carb. I put in a Chevy 350 4-bolt main crate engine, Edelbrock intake and carb, and Hedmann headers (it ran like a scalded dog LOL). My advice is to look for a Haynes manual covering the '71 model year. They have complete wiring diagrams in their manuals, but the wire routing will be up to you. Good luck.

Runs rough at idle when i drive it runs fine until i come to red light then it wants to stall. if it is idling it will stall to just bought it havent did any maintenance yet

Those El Caminos are nice. If you haven't done any maintenance, I would make sure that the oil is full, check and replace any bad carb. vacuum lines, check for any fuel, intake, vacuum, etc. leaks. Maybe check and replace spark plugs, wires, dist. cap + rotor, also check timing, etc. Good luck.

1984 305 El Camino / stock, was running fine, now it stalls when I get off the freeway at stop sign. After a short while it will start again but acts like it is choking.

Check your accelerator pump. It's on the side of the carburetor, near where the fuel line enters. It costs about $10 to replace but it causes a lot of headaches.

this sounds like the carb acclerator pump is not delivering enough fuel, replace it.

86 4.3 litre V6 chevy el camino bogging down, stalling out

most likely a weak fuel pump or a clogged filter. Check fuel pressure with a gauge or as its bogging down spray brake cleaner in the Throttle Body. If this allows it to increase RPM then its the pump or filter.

My 1981 chevy El Camino V6 3.8L 229 idle gets high when engine is hot and when engine gets cold idle drops not sure why can i have any suggestions

Sounds like a problem with your choke. It may just need to be cleaned (linkages and all). If the choke doesn't close after reaching operating temperature, the engine will rev high. This indicates a choke stuck in the open position. Also, you may need to look for a vacuum leak if cleaning it doesn't fix it. On a 1981 GM product, I'd expect the vacuum hoses to be stiff and cracking.
