Hi, it sounds like a fuel pump problem. You might also want to have the injectors looked at or use one of those additives that clean injectors while you run it. But if if starts while you hold the gas pedal down but dies when you let off, the fuel pump may be clogged or weak and failing, the pump should push through apprx 4-5 gallons a minute. You could disconnect the downstream side of the pump, put a container under it and have someone crank it for EXACTLY one minute. If you get much less than 4 or 5 gallons, there is something wrong with the pump, BUT it could also be the mixture control on your computer, not sure, could be alot of things.

1999 taurus hard starting, once it starts runs fine. it has original coil pack and crank sensor

Does this engine have a cold start mechanism? I would check that out since it appears to be the source of the problem.

93 toyota pickup 4x4 it will stay running after I turn it on to start it up, it starts up then after a few seconds it kills

if I'm reading this right...
... the engine starts and dies within a few seconds.
... you jumpered the fuel pump test connector and it will keep running.
... you smell fuel after trying to re-start when it dies.

Disconnect the plug to the cold start injector. Even if you have an issue with the engine running then dying after a few seconds after doing this, if you don't smell fuel after disconnecting the cold start injector and try to restart it, the cold start time injector time switch may be failing.

Buy a can of starting fluid and have someone start the engine then spray short bursts of the fluid around all the intake fittings. If spraying the fluid in any particular area keeps the engine running, I'd start looking for leaks around that area.

It does sound like an AFM or COR issue considering it dies after a few seconds, but the fuel smell when trying to restart the engine may be a separate issue that needs corrected / isolated first.it will keep running.

Engine quits running after starting.

Check the fuel pump pressure while it is running and begins to die, the fuel pump has 2 circuits, one supplies power while you start the engine, the other after the engine is running, you may have an issue with the run circuit of the fuel pump.
