Since you didn't list the year and model I can give you these items to check, On front wheel drive vehicles the rear is a floating axle,, meaning no rear end gears , check the wheel bearings and brakes, If you have a rear end with gears , you still need to check those 2 items but also the fluid level in the rear end itself,, if those all check out ok and the same thing is happening,, you may have gearing troubles, or driveshaft

While the vehicle is on a flat surface, block the front wheels front and back, jack the rearend of the vehicle up and place jack stands under the rearend, remove the drive shaft first the remove the square shaped u- bolts that hold the rearend to the leafsprings unhook the brake lines and emergency cable and installation is just the opposite jack the vehicle up high enough to pull out the rearend

Leaking fluid from rear end

hello, fluid leaking out of rear end is probably the pinion shaft seal, its were the drive shaft hooks to the rearend, you have to drop drive shaft, take yoke off rearend, or if it is,more further towards the back, were wheels are, then you need axle shaft seal, you have one on both sides on the rearend, behind the drums, where the back brakes are, also look and see if its coming from back of transmission, where drive shaft goes into the transmission, see if you can tell what color fluid is, if its red, its probably rear transmission seal, where drive shaft goes into the transmission.

**** in power train or rearend

Most likely getting a little wear on the rear pinion, and you are experiencing the backlash from the gears. Put the vehicle in neutral (off) with the parking brake on and twist your drive shaft back and forth. There should be minimal play. If there is a bunch, you have a rearend rebuild in your near future.

Will 95 jeep gc rearend work in 97?

As long as they are the same rearend and the same gears, yes. ie a 9.25 rear with 3.92 gears will not work where a Dana 44 with 3.55 gears was.

1990 Chevy CK1500 2 wheel drive pickup - Rear end

Is the rearend blown into peices? if yes replace the whole thing. If not put it in reverse and have someone look to see if the rear driveshaft is spinning. If it is you more than likely need a ring and pinion set in the rearend. If it doesn't spin the problem is in your transmission not the rearend.

Yes the rear seal on the rearend would cause a leak and would have to be pressed in.
