Question about 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

2 Answers

I was changing my thermostat on my 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee 6-cylinder, and I dropped a machine screw behind the bell housing of the fan. I have not been able to get it out. I think I need to take the fan and bell housing off to get it out of there. What is the best way to accomplish this. Thank you.

Hi, I would suggest a telescopic pick up tool(magnet), you can purchase them from almost any hardware auto repair store. You can also make one, just find a long stick or equivilant and secure a small magnet to the end and go fishing in the fan shroud. To remove the fan shroud(bellhousing) : 1) remove bolts securing fan to water pump and lay inside fan shroud 2)remove two fan shroud to crossmember nuts and remove fan and shroud as an assembly. TO install reverse procedure.

On the back of the engine, under the firewall, driver side. You can barely see it from above. You have to change it from underneath.
