Question about 2000 Ford Ranger SuperCab

2 Answers

I have a 2000 Ford Ranger and noticed a squealing coming fronm the front right wheel, I went up to a shop the other day and could not be seen that day so I drove back home when i left the truck did not squeal agin and hasn't yet. Could it be that the squealers fell off?, I highly doubt it though, what do you think about this

It could be a bunch of stuff.

Does it squeal when you hit the breaks and slowing down? -- This could be the squealers, time to replace the pads.

ALSO this could be cheap break pads.

When the day warms up and the heat from the road adds to the heat from slowing down your truck, the cheap pads are "semi-metallic" and this means that there are little flakes of metal in the pads and they hit the rotor and the metal on metal sound squeals like the dickens. Really annoying. The ONLY real solution for this is to spend the money on Ceramic Brake Pads. Well worth the cost if you are like me and can't stand the squealing when slowing down.... it makes your nice car sound like a junker.

If it is squealing randomly when driving, I would recommend you replace the wheel bearing. I had a VW jetta that would SQUEAL like crazy but only in reverse. The wheel bearings were shot on the car and reverse would cause the broken bearings to rear their ugly head.

If it squeals when turning corners, this is your tire pressure. Fill up the tires with the right amount of air, you will find this info on the inside of the drivers door on a white label. In the warmer weather your tire pressure changes and you could be having low tire pressure which causes a nasty squeak when turning corners.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. It sounds like it may be a brake pad. Chances are one of them fell off and that is why you no longer hear it. I would check the pads and the caliper also. Make sure the pads don't need changed and everything looks right Luke.

When I go to turn the wheel in my 2000 ford ranger I hear loud squealing noises. I checked the power steering fluid and its full. What can it be?The squealing starts as soon as I turn the wheel to the left...

The power steering pump is normally connected or driven by the engine with a V-belt. A loose belt can cause squealing as soon as the power steering come under load (e.g. steering left or right while stopped).

Check the tension on the V-belt directly connected to the power steering pump. This may need replacement.

Hoep this helps.

It sounds like the power steering belt is too loose, tighten it up a bit but not too much just enough to make slipping belt stop.
