You may have a bad clutch switch which will only allow the car to start with the clutch pedal depressed.it allows power through the switch only with it depressed to start the car so you won`t start the car with it in gear causing an accident.there will be a switch that the clutch pedal pushes against that allows power to flow through it to start the car.there should be power on one side with the key turned on and power on the other side with the clutch depressed.

cam or crank sensor or the ground wire from the battery to the body. Cam and crank sensor will cause the no start but the clicking sounds
leads me to believe the little wire running from your battery ground is
most likely the cause. if all else the altenator is no longer working and that can go any time

97 jetta tdi wont turn over. interior exterior lights work. charged battery. nothing when key is turned and clutch depressed. no clicking nothing. i found a wire above the solinoid heavy gauge red

I'm not a VW diesel expert, but you should have a switch on the clutch to prevent you from cranking the engine in gear. I would look for that switch and check for voltage on both sides with the pedal engaged.
There should be a small wire on the starter solenoid that goes to the clutch switch and then to the key.

Hi, the problem may be with the safety switch on the clutch. Locate the switch--it will be touching the arm of the clutch when the clutch is fully depressed. Make sure the arm is properly aligned to the switch or adjust the switch as needed such that the arm closes the switch. If the adjustment is good, pull the connector off the switch and connect the terminals of the connector using a large paper clip. If this solves the problem, replace the switch. If not, please get back to me.

1996 nissan 200sx with a new battery and starter but when key is turned there is nothing no click no rotation what so ever the clutch is depressed lights come on with full intensity but the car wont turn...

check the wires on the starter motor, there's a small one that sometimes gets dirty and loses contact or may even be off altogether, this supplies the feed to starter to tell it to turn over, or try running a live wire from the battery straight to this small terminal on starter motor body..CAUTION, make sure you are in neutral gear with handbrake applied, turn ignition on so lights on dash are lit up, then a quick touch of this "live" wire should make engine turn over or start,if so the problem is the small wire has no live feed or needs cleaning.
hope this helps.

Starting problem

check the switch that the clutch actuates.your ignition sounds like it works.some cars also must be in neutral if yours does the wires for this will plug into the transmission.you can bypass the switch at that point.
