Question about Pontiac Bonneville

1 Answer

I have a 1997 Pontiac Bonneville SE, and the battery may be bad. Though I wouldn't be asking if I thought there was the possibility that the starter is the culprit. what happens is it goes.....reeee............reeeeee............reeeee...reeeee..reeee. stop for a 20 seconds for fear of killing it. 20 seconds later. start and then I am wondering is it the starter or the battery. it is usually after several hours of not being used but recently it has been more frequent, doing it just 20 minutes after being off. I have eliminated anything that would drain the battery after it is off.

It sounds like it's just a bad battery. If it was the starter, it wouldn't even turn over like you're describing. If a starter goes bad, you typically just a hear a click and it won't even attempt to turn the engine over.

Good Luck!

Is there anyway to bypass the a/c pulley when putting on a serpentine belt on a 1997 pontiac bonneville SE. Compressor is locked up and want to just bypass it.

I don't know of a practical way to get around this problem. If just the bearing inside of the clutch pulley is bad [which would first be noisy then might lock up and burn off the belt] then you may be able to have just that bearing replaced so your belt will work again. I've replaced several of these bearings over the years...they are pressed in place and do require a bit of skill and a good press to replace. Sometimes though the bearing will go bad and damaged the nose of the compressor badly enough that the only fix is to replace the compressor. The only real way to tell is to examine it all once the clutch pulley has been removed from the compressor. Hope this helps a bit!

My 1997 pontiac bonneville will not turn over. battery is good. no dash lights or headlights. no radio or power windows. What is the problem?

Either dead battery or bad fusible link. Charge the battery and if the lights do not come back, then check the fusible links (usually near the starter).

My 1997 pontiac boneville SSEI cooling fans never come on

Hey i have a 96 Bonneville SE :) I had the same problem....., First off .

Unplug you're fans.. Take some wires, ( i used speaker wire. ) Have someone help you, :) connect it to you're fan and then to the battery one to ground one to power. If you're fan doesn't turn on then you're motor in the fan is dead.

2nd. Check you're relays, Easy way to do this is switch them around one by one... They can't all be bad :P and if it turns on.. then you have a bad relay:P

3rd. Does you're Temp gauge work? There are a few sensors That could need to be replaced.
