This may sound like a lazy way to answer but I use and I'd recommend you register for free at www.autozone.com Once registered you'll have access to repair and shop manuals for virtually any car or truck. All the data and diagrams you need now or may need in the future will be a couple of mouse clicks away. In addition, since they sell the quick assembly struts, they'll have the install procedures on their site. The site is great for any auto DIYer

How to fix rear shock springs on my car

the easiest way to replace the spring is to actually replace the spring and strut assembly together. most parts stores sell what they refer to as a "quick strut assembly". all you would do at that point is unbolt the old strut assembly and bolt the quick strut one on. no need to compress the spring to replace the strut etc. the process would involve removing the wheel, removing 4-5 bolts, removing the old assembly and then bolting the new one on. the complete assembly at autozone should run you about $130-140. good luck with it

How hard is it to replace a rear strut

it is fairly easy
1. jack up remove wheel, block car on frame!!! not on the strut
2. remove two big bolts on bottom of strut then have to drive them out of hub housing (splined about 1 inch on head side of bolt.
3. remove the sway bar connector rod (allen key and wrench. or if allen is stripped u can use wrench just in front of boot, so one inside and undo the one nut you can see facing you)
4. open trunk pull carpet back on top of wheel well so you can see 3 nuts in a triangle with one in the center DO NOT REMOVE CENTER NUT this is what holds spring to strut assembly..put a jack under strut to hold it in place .remove the 3 nuts.
5. pry the bottom of strut out of hub
6. drop out strut and spring assembly.
7. use 2 spring depressors to squeeze the spring so u may remove large center nut, use wrench and allen key.
8. replace as a whole unit or just the strut. the whole unit is more expensive and if so delete step 7
9. reverse the steps to install.
10. make sure all bolts are tight and check with torque wrench for proper tightness.
11. MAKE SURE LOL you dont want to go for a drive with any of these parts loose. If u r not experienced take it to a shop.

Do I need a spring compressor just to remove and replace the front left and right strut mounts on a 1997 pontiac grand prix gt?

If your replacing it with a quick strut which is the spring, mount, and strut assembly then a spring compressor is not required. If replacing just the mounts then definitely a spring compressor is required. Please use extreme caution when compressing and removing strut assemblies as the springs maintain alot of pressure on them.

2001 Grand Prix SE 3.1V Struts / Replacement

Hello Struts!!!!
In response to your question regarding the struts..it is not necessary to replace the whole strut and spring assy when servicing a weak strut...unless the coil spring itself is incredibly weak or broken. You can remove the struts yourself and take them down to any auto repair shop so they can safely decompress the spring and install new struts.Be sure to inspect or replace your strut mounts with this same movement also. They become dry and start o crack with age and time. These are rubber mounted...that's why they tend to crack with time.If you have any other oncerns you are more than welcome to get a hold of me..HOPE I COULD HELP!!!

Need to replace rear struts

It depends on who does it. If you are doing it by yourself, I would allow at least a couple of hours on each side, although it should take no more than one per side. If you have air tools and a lift, it should take between an hour or two from start to finish, since removing wheels, bolts etc would be fast. Hope this helps you, Rick
