You shouldn't ever have to add freon to an a/c system. It is a closed system - like your refrigerator. When was the last time you added freon to your refrigerator or home a/c when there wasn't a problem?

If you are needing to add freon, then you have a leak somewhere that needs to be repaired. Your local automotive technician can diagnose the problem for you. Freon should only be added by trained professionals. If you don't know what you are doing, you can charge the system incorrectly causing significant damage to the system.

If you still want to do it yourself, reference this article.
You will need a set of A/C Gauges, and freon.
Do NOT put any type of stop leak into the system - this can cause irreversible damage to the compressor.

How much freon is needed for a chevy equinox?

Assuming your system is running the newer R134A refrigerant, there are canisters available for sale most anywhere... Walmart even carrys this stuff. Instructions are included on the can.

There is a guide included on the can that explains how to make sure you are adding the right amount, Be sure to grab the can with the included PSI Gauge attached.

Hope you find something of use here.

Good Luck and Happy Motoring

The AC on my 2007 is not as cold as it needs to

Hi,
It may be low on freon but that is usually installed by a service tech anyway. putting in freon isn't like putting in oil...
Maybe you can find a shop along the way who can check your freon level and put in more if needed.
Hope this helps... Good luck!
