Question about 2004 Lincoln Aviator

1 Answer

My 2004 Lincoln Aviator. I put my car in park to let someone in and when I put the car back in drive and would not go anywhere. I tried putting it in reverse, etc. and nothing. It shifted very easily but could not feel the car go into any of the gears. Car was running fine before then. Everything else in the car is working. Had to tow it to my house.

Hello, There are several complaints listed with the NHTSA on this item. Your shifter has come apart under the shift lever. Go to AboutAutomobile.com and look up your vehicle and you will find 8 complaints with the majority having the same problem as yours.

Then print off the info and try to get with a Dealer or ask for a Factory Rep. Currently at the end of March of this year there were no Recalls. But with the information in hand you may be able to convince the Factory Rep that you know about this problem and it is only a matter of time before they pick up the bill. They may decide to do it for you.

I hope my Solution is very helpful to you.

My 2004 Aviator wont come out of park. I noticed that the gear shift is loose. You can lift it straight up. Is there a way to fix it without having to have it towed to the garage?

Check where the shift lever is attached to the transmission maybe it did come off and no longer controlling the Trans, See if its off then try to put it back if it could be screwed in . Good luck

it sounds like your shift lever is loose and now your Park/Neutral safety switch is out of position. Try, with foot on brake, holding key in start while you move shift lever slowly from park to low.
