4-5 quarts of 5w30, on average. It will depend on motor size...A v-6 uses more oil than a v-4. When in doubt, put 3.5 quarts in, then start measuring with the dipstick to avoid over-filling with oil, as this can blow a gasket, worst case scenario... 5W 30 Synthetic Oil Bing images

You may have seized the engine-if your battery is fully charged and you cannot the engine to crank, the engine may be toast-try putting a socket on the crankshaft pulley ( I think it is a 24mm) and rotate it clockwise with a breaker bar-if you cannot turn it by hand, the engine is done.
You should use the viscosity oil recommended in your owner's manual. Using a heavier weight oil can affect your fuel economy. If you overfilled the engine with oil, drain out a quart. Overfilling with oil will cause the oil to 'foam', and if this happens, you are not getting proper lubrication of components, which can result in damage to your engine.
most cars will burn about a quart between oil changes when they get a few miles on them this pretty normal as long as you dont see black smoke or oil on the ground i would say its fine
