Trying to locate fuel pump housing

The fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank. You have to empty the tank, loosen the starp holding the tank and then you can see the wire connecting to the fuel pump. Disconnect the wire before removing the fuel pump. Take extra caution as the fuel is flammable. Sometimes you have to completely remove the tank before you can remove the pump.

How do i remove the fuel pump?

To remove the fuel pump you will need to drop the fuel tank itself. Simply remove the filler hose from tank, and using a bottle jack with a block of wood on top, center jack under fuel tank near the center. You will need someone else to help with the removal if there is more than half a tank of fuel. Once the four bolts are removed. slowly lower the tank with jack and remove wires from the tank. Completely remove tank from under vehicle. Using a screwdriver and hammer, carefully tap the metal ring (or remove clips if plastic) and pull the pump straight out. When installing new pump, be certain that a new screen is purchased and attached to bottom of fuel pump assembly. Insert new assembly through top of tank and replace the retaining ring or clips. Then, in reverse order, install the fuel tank, reattaching wires before fully raising tank. Reinstall filler hose, be certain tank bolts are tight, and you are done. FYI...some fuel pump assemblies come with a new screen included. Be certain that new pump has screen included. If not, purchase screen. If the screen is not replaced, it will void the warranty on new fuel pump. Hope this helps you out.

My fuel gauge is blinking an my fuel indecator is showing my tank is empty, after I fill up the tank. How do I fix this problem?

The problem would be a defective fuel tank sending unit. The fuel tank must be removed to replace it. Some sending units are serviced only as a complete fuel pump and hanger assembly. Check with your dealer to see if the sending unit is available separately or if you must buy a complete fuel pump module.

Replacing a fuel pump

Relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench. Remove the spare tire cover (if present) and trunk floor so that you can open the access panel and disconnect the electrical connection from the fuel pump.
  • Remove the fuel pump's electrical connector and disconnect the quick connect fitting from the fuel pump. Remove the fuel tank locknut using tool 07AAA-S0XA100 or the fuel tank retaining bolts with a socket wrench, depending on the year and engine. Remove the fuel tank.
  • Install the new fuel pump using the items included in the kit and be sure to replace the gasket and O-rings. Align the arrows on the fuel tank and pump.
  • Complete the installation by reversing the removal procedure.

Where is the fuel pump on a 1997 gmc jimmy

The fuel pump is located on the top of the fuel tank in most models, and it necessitates removing the fuel tank completely for access. The average backyard mechanic can replace a fuel pump in a Jimmy in about an hour.

Sorry not sure what you are trying to do exactly. Change the fuel pump in the fuel tank? I'm posting because I recently had to do my Jaguar, maybe familiar.

I had to lower the entire rear suspension, wheels, differential and trailing arms. This allowed me to disconnect fuel lines going into middle bottom of fuel tank. Then I could continue removing fuel tank thru trunk including the filler neck. Then I could finally get to top of fuel tank and remove clips to remove fuel pump in tank. Funny how the instructions want you to empty the tank before you start. I had to do it with about 1/2 tank, how was I supposed to empty 10 gallons of fuel?
    Good luck!
