Question about 1998 GMC Safari

Replaced fuel pump , replaced distr cap & rotor. Replaced coil . Getting plenty of gas . Starts won't stay running . What'[s next?

My safari work's good but yesterday I parking in my spot and all night was raining then in the morning wasn't star it up

Was a code reader connected to the diagnostic link to see if there were any trouble codes stored in the PCM? If so, what are the codes? What reader was used? How many miles are on the vehicle?

Hey please replace crankshaft position sensor and camshaft positon sensor and that will take care of your problem i know its short and sweet but will fix ya up good please when you fix them please leave my 4 thumbs up and and testimonial would be grateful thanks

Check temp sensor and TPS, throttle positioning sensor.The power control module,"pcm.is a possible thought.Just check all connections. It is always a good idea to spray WD 40 or equivalent in the connections.

If your fuel is running all the time the PCM is bad if you take your relay out and the fuel pump stays running its a short

Won't start fuel pump replaced new tank and relay have fuel after fuel filter runs if I put fuel down throttle body. this is on a4,3.


Nephew had similar problem on different vehicle - had spark to plugs, limited gas, everthing else checked. I did one thing first - check for two fuel filters - one in the tank was only screens and one in the line itself. Found a little in line filter just outside of engine compartment under car next to frame that looked like it had never been changed - partially clogged - replaced it.Almost ran but would not keep running. I had rotor and cap pulled - found that the screw holding rotor in place was loose. The rotor edge next to plug wire leads was chopped up and the cap's plug wire leads were heavily oxidized. Replaced them and got it running but a little rough. Pulled the spark plugs and found gaps from 25 - 100 ---replaced the plugs with correct gapping and it ran really well.

Replaced bad fuel pump, installed new relay and fuel filter, engine turns over but is not firing on..... positive the fuel pump is pumping gas and checked to see if gas was going thru fuel filter. Tried...


Hi, Ok you have confirmed that it's not a fuel problem. You need to check for spark. Pull the coil wire off of the coil(secondary lead-looks like a spark plug wire) Have some one crank it over and listen for a popping sound. IF yes, spark is at the coil, that means all ignition sensors are working. Next check for spark at ends of wires after cap. IF no replace cap and rotor. IF yes remove a couple spark plugs and check for fouling(wet, fuel etc...) IF yes replace or clean plugs and retest for starting. IF no spark is present at coil you need to scan computer and watch for rpm signal. IF no rpm signal, replace crankshaft sensor with OEM delco part. BIGGEST problem with these engines is Cap and Rotor burn out.

1986 chevy pu 1/2 ton.2 wheel drive 4.3 litre v-6. My Truck sometimes starts,sometimes runs sometimes just turns over but won't start..I have replaced cap,wires.plugs,rotor,coil,battery and ignition...


Check your fuel pressure. This will tell you if you are getting enough fuel. If you are not getting the proper pressure either your fuel filter is clogged or your fuel pump is failing and needs to be replaced.

Seems like you replaced everything on the ignition but the cap. Sounds like a good place to look to me.
Look for burn marks around contacts.
