You have a clog somewhere. On the fuel pump there is a "sock" to prevent **** from being sucked into fuel lines/filter. This "sock" may be blocked. It may also be in the lines to the fuel filter or the filter itself. Hard to say without seeing. There is also TSB on this car for faulty fuel gauge reading more fuel than what is in ur tank. Heres the TSB:

Summary: Mercedes: the fuel level indicated in the instrument cluster does not match the actual fill level. This may be caused by a fault in the fuel level sensor function chain: hydraulic and electrical lines and their connections, rear sam or in

You can find all recalls at www.nhtsa.gov. I would contact Mercedes, it sounds like they may be at fault. Good luck

SOURCE: ran out of gas. put gas in car would not start.

When you run a car out of gas,all the dirt and debris from the bottom of the tank is sucked into the lines,First replace the filter and flush the lines if needed.

SOURCE: The car was running fine

I would start by checking fuel pump pressure ,the pump might have been damaged.

I ran out of gas / will not start now

Its very possible the pump is cooked. The pump uses gasoline to keep it cool and lubed. No gas makes it get very hot just before you run out of gas.
The screen in front of the pump may be clogged up too.

97 buick regal gs runs fine until warm then stalls and will start for more than a second. sometimes when i give it gas it will rev for another second then stall

When the engine warms up the engine computer goes into closed loop mode and relies primarily on the O2 sensors and the MAF sensor to calculate the correct fuel to air mixture - if one of the O2 sensors is fouled or the MAF sensor is not working properly, this can cause the problem.
Given the age of the car, I would also check the idle air control (IAC) and channels, the EGR valve and the throttle body for carbon buildup.

Ive got a 2000 saturn sedan 1.9l 4cyl ran completly out of gas now it starts but stalls out like its running out of gas

Possibly burned up fuel pump. Insufficient pressure to keep running. Have a gauge hooked up to see what it is putting out. Should be about 45psi.

Cannot get 1987 chevy van 20 to keep running... stalls out

Best do a fuel pressure test. Should have chg. fuel filter from the get go. The only other filter is on the end of the fuel pump in tank. Bad gas and dirty gas will plug up fuel filter, hense burn pump up.
