Hello, The Codes will need to be cleared from the computer or it takes about 35 Start-ups to cycle then out after a repair. The 2 codes you have are indicating a lean condition in both banks of the engine.

The majority of the time the lean Codes are the result of air leaks from the Intake manifold. Another part, called an ISC(ISO) motor is a valve bolted on the top of the Intake manifold. The ISC(ISO) motor is an auxiliary air intake part to control the idle. It may be mounted horizontal and the valving can get gummed up. WD40 will usually clean it and is safe for the Solenoid portion.

The Intake manifold gasket may also be leaking. Using a spray bottle of water from an old cleaning dispenser, you can mist the seams of the Intake. A change in RPM indicates a leak to be fixed. Some people also use Carburetor cleaner to mist the gaskets, but it may get on your paint. Any other Vacuum part like the Brake booster or Vacuum reserve canister should be misted with water.

I hope my solution is very helpful in solving the problem. The vehicle is suppose to run fast when cold for a minute or so. If the speed seems extreme, it is likely you are venting too much air.

Hooking up a scan tool that can view sensor data is the preferred method of diagnosting . Looking at fuel trim's , short & long term trim's . are the O2 sensors switch normally , what is Mass air flow sensor doing ? Stall's when hot ,cold or doesn't matter ? Did you use propane around intake manifold to check for leaks or use a bottle of water .

I have replaced the port seals, isolater bolts, cleaned the EGR ports, plugs and wires, and chanced the air filter. I was getting both 171 and 174 codes. Now after 60 miles or so, pulled the codes again...

P0171 is a lean fuel condition . The computer reflashed has nothing to do with it . Vacuum leak intake manifold probably . If both P0171 & P0174 were back could be fuel pump low flow or restricted fuel filter . or O2 sensor problem or mass airflow sensor. Suggest you take it to a qualified repair shop to have it diagnosed .

This is usually an oxygen sensor, replace the O2 sensor located above the catalytic converter before replacing the evaporator purge canister.

I have a 2000 ford windstar and the codes are

Those two codes are asociated with the fuel control system and O2 sensors, I would start by having someone hook it up to a scanner and watch the funtions of the O2 sensors. If they are switching slow or are not switching at all then replace the faulty one.
