I'm trying to change the fuel pressure regulater valve on my 2004cts cadilac.I checked the fuel rail not there. Someone told me It is on top the gas tank. Please help me locate it.

What engine does yours have ? 3.6 L engine the regulator is inside the fuel tank !
2.6 an 3.2L is on the fuel rail !
5.7L inside fuel tank !
The fuel pressure regulator attaches to the fuel return pipe on the fuel sender assembly. The fuel pressure regulator is a diaphragm-operated relief valve. A software bias compensates the injector on-time because the fuel pressure regulator is not referenced to manifold vacuum. The injector pulse width varies with the signal from the mass air flow (MAF)/intake air temperature (IAT) sensor.
With the engine running at idle, the system fuel pressure at the pressure test connection should be between 380-410 kPa (55-60 psi). With the system pressurized and the pump OFF the pressure should stabilize and hold. If the pressure regulator supplies a fuel pressure which is too low or too high, a driveability condition will result.
You would have to change The modular fuel pump sender assembly !
Now what makes you think you need to have it changed ?

Trying to locate fuel rail sensor ?

Does your car emit a thick, dark smoke, or some oil, from the tailpipe? Has its mileage dropped? A bad fuel pressure regulator can be the reason of these problems. The fuel injection system in the car must supply fuel to the car engine with a constant optimal pressure. A spring inside the pressure regulator pushes against the diaphragm and helps regulate the pressure inside it. I do not know the size of the engine. but call any auto parts store to locate it.

My 5.3l vortec will start with ether but wont stay running

Is your gas cap on tight? Could be low fuel pressure. Can you check your fuel pressure? Have you checked your fuel filter? You may need to replace the fuel pressure regulator. Locate it and pull vac hose off of it and if there is gas coming out of hose replace regulator. You will need to relieve pressure before changing.

I need to replace de fuel presurre sensor in a pontiac montana ,do i have to just replace the sensor ,o the sensor came with the fuel pump?thank you

Replacing the fuel pressure regulator, involves just replacing the regulator at the end of the fuel rail in the engine compartment, but fuel pressure sensor - does this mini-van have a fuel pressure sensor?
replacing the fuel pressure regulator: (1) locate it at the end of the fuel rail in the engine compartment,
(2) relieve fuel system pressure (3) disconnect fuel pressure regulator vacuum line. (4) remove fuel pressure regulator retaining screw (retain for re-use (5) using a shop towel to catch spilled fuel, lift & twist Fuel pressure regulator to remove it from the fuel rail. (6) remove/discard retainer and spacer bracket from the fuel rail. (7) remove fuel pressure regulator from the engine fuel return pipe. (8) remove/discard Fuel Pressure Regulator inlet O-ring (9) Check Fuel Pressure Regulator filter screen for contamination - if contaminated, replace Fuel Pressure Regulator. (10) Lubricate new Fuel Pressure Regulator inlet O-ring with clean engine oil & install onto the Fuel Pressure Regulator inlet. (11) Install the fuel return pipe onto the Fuel Pressure regulator (12) Install new retainer & spacer bracket into the slot on the fuel rail.
(13) Install Fuel Pressure Regulator onto Fuel Rail & tighten Engine Fuel Return Pipe nut to 13 ft-lbs (17 Nm). (14) connect Fuel Pressure Regulator vacuum line, (15) Install Fuel Pressure Regulator attachng screw & tighten to 76 in-lbs (8.5 Nm). (16) Inspect & verify that retainer & spacer bracket is engaged in the slots on the fuel rail. Grasp & pull on the Fuel Pressure Regulator.
to ensure that the Fuel Pressure Regulator is properly seated. (17) inspect for fuel leaks with this
procedure: On 2sec,(holy rollers), off 10sec will be left on, inspect for leaks while running.

Try replacing the fuel filter and locate the fuel pressure regulator it should be located on the top of the motor at the area where the beginning fuel rail is, ( the fuel rail feeds the fuel injectors) if you notice the the pressure regulators vacuum hose is broken replace also if the pressure regulator appears to be wet with gas replace it. The fuel pump may be bad check for appropriate pressure at access valve on fuel rail it should be a minimum of 30 psi fuel pressure.

I need to find the fuel regulator is located

Your fuel pressure regulator is located near the fuel pressure rail. Follow the rail to locate the small device that has a vacuum line attracted to it.

Thank You
