Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. You need to make sure the throttle is not sticking first. You may need to adjust the idle on the vehicle. Make sure it is correct. If they check out, you may need a new idle control sensor for your vehicle. If you have a check engine light on, take it to Autozone and get it scanned. It is free. The computer may have found the problem. If not, you will need to begin checking it.

All the above is normal , except 2000rpm is a little high at idle . can be adjusted down to 1500rpm. the computer adjusts the engine speed . in drive the transmission loads up the engine idle drops to 1000rpm . in park engine unloaded rpm increase all normal.

Engine wont catch

Catch?
cranks fast
starts every time.
idles fine hot or cold , or both? hot idle not too fast.
i race engine , in park and neutral, I can hit 3500 rpm easy, can you.
i release brakes, (brakes are not packed in ICE , are they?)
I select 1gear or reverse (A/T or m/t)
the car moves or dont move, which is it, my guess catch = no move at all.
I try to drive, i look at RPM and MPH
RPM moves up and MPH track.
track means they both move in a linear progression.
RPM rises and for all RPM increases MPH also increases.
does it?
if all that works then we have an engine power issue.
weak on hills?

Honda civic 2007 ahave a problem in tachometer Rises and descends

CEL stuck on? driving? or running.????????????????????
ok , 1st post ever for someone even noticing the tacho going nuts.
ok, what engine, there are like 3 in USA.
got A/T tranny or a stick, big diffference there, for sure.
ill pretend its and A/T car.
is the tach not at 800rpm at idle steady? y/n
yes
is the tacho rpm going to high in drive driving. or parked.
if driving only. then if the rpm rises and the MPG dont in direct
relationship this is called TRANNY SLIP.
A/T slip:
open the FSM or go to any online source, say alldata.com
see A/t Chapter, see test 2, (1 is pressure tests)
see test 2 the stall tests.
does that fail , parked? RTM
read the steps. if tranny does in fact slip.
the tranny has vast numbers of tests. all covered under.
on car tests. for A/T in the FSM.
do them.
if not tranny then tell again what you were doing during funny tacho actions. driving or not.???????????

Car will not move 2000 acura 3.2

ok you crank the engine over, it starts,
it can rev. to 3000 rpm for 1 second in park ?
y/n?
you then select, all gears forward and reverse and car can not move on flat ground, all brakes off?
can you push car in neutral on flat ground, , y/n ?

if no, brakes are bad. (or something more serious , ask)
if yes, tranny is dead (but....)

the if RPM rises, on engine (right foot action) and car MPH is 0
and rpm keeps rising that is a bad tranny (called slip or flare) in "D"
if you set the brakes hard,
and do the A/T stall test. (read the FSM)
and the RPM is way low that is a bad engine. (weak engine power)

if the RPM is good, stall tested. the engine and tranny are working. ( brakes stuck or frozen in ice?)
if the RPM flares, at stall test. it's a bad tranny
do the stall test for 5 sec max. rest for 15min and repeat.
STALL, test, makes tons of ATF heat. and heats the TC big time
RTM, it's all there. See FSM and read the manual.

Car will not move

ok,
got a RPM tachometer in dash?
yes?
1: does rpm rise fast with right foot and no go? yes= bad tranny
this is called bad transmission (gross slippage)
2: does RPM rise just small bit ? and car wont go
yes, that means the engine is weak.

answer that. its the 1st step all mech do.
slipping A/T
or weak engine, (or brakes stuck on)

When I start the car rpm goes up by itself without revving. If I put the car in drive rpm goes to normal but temperature rises to H once I hit the brake or put in park.

Check the mas air flow system on the car also the o2 sensor both will make the car act in this fashion. What is the amber light if that is the check engine light get to this right now . Both can be done by the back yard mech.

86 chevy one-ton pickup dually brake problems

If you're not losing any brake fluid then it sounds to me as though the master cylinder is bleeding fluid between to two chambers allowing fluid to pass from one to the other which would decrease the pressure on one of the lines leading to the proportioning valve, thus setting off the 'brake' light.

Orrrrr,

IF it does NOT have the hydroboost system the following steps MAY help diagnose if it's a booster problem.

(Copied and pasted from a youtube comment)

Test 1) 1. Start the car 2. Let it idle for 2 minutes 3. After 2 minutes turn off the car 4. Pump the brake pedal 3 times 5. The pedal should rise every time if it does then the Booster and Check valve are OK 6. If the pedal doesn't then the is an issue with the either one, run tests 1 and 2.

Test 2) 1. Start the car 2. Let it idle for 2 Minutes 3. After 2 minutes push down the brake pedal and HOLD it 4. While holding the pedal down turn off the car 5. The pedal should NOT rise for at least 30 seconds 6. If it doesn't rise then the Check Valve is good 7. If the pedal rises before 30 seconds then the Check Valve is faulty.

Test 3) 1. Shut off the Engine 2. Pump the brake pedal 4 times 3. On the 4th one keep it pushed down and start the car while holding the pedal down 4. The pedal should sink down. 5. If it sinks, the booster is Fine.

Myself, I'm leaning towards the master cylinder having an internal 'leak' or bypass problem.

Hope this helps.

Hi there,

If you're willing, we can try checking your computer for trouble codes - this will help identify any electrical issues.

Note: there's a 50/50 chance this procedure will work (as this does work on the 1997 model):

- With gear in Neutral, start engine and rev the car to 2,500 rpm, then 'gradually' reduce revs down to idle speed.
- with park brake secure, slowly cycle the gear lever through each position (down to 1st, then back up, ending in Park)
- turn Airconditioning ON, then OFF - turn engine OFF - Within 5 seconds, perform the following Ignition Key sequence (without starting): ON, OFF, ON, OFF, ON (if done correctly, your ODOMETER should display a series of 4-digit codes). Please reply back once you have your codes..... Cheers,
