There are plenty of online sources to get parts pricing. Every major parts store will have a website you can browse for parts and pricing.

If your looking for a quote for the job done complete I would suggest calling a few shops to get there price quotes. Shop rates will vary from town to town so it would be just about impossible to give an accurate parts and labor quote

Call autozone or advance auto parts stores they can tell you the price for one but also call to other places it might be cheaper like a salvage yard they might have the same vehicle of that year that got into a wreck and this part has not been damage.

Power stearing leak

All depends what is leaking. For power steering leaks there is not much to do but replace the leaking part. If it is a hose it is not a big deal. If it is the power steering pump itself check autozone, etc for availability. They'll probably have to order it in for you. Sometimes you luck out and the leak is due to a seal where a hose is screwed into the pump or the rack and pinion unit. I believe some auto parts places carry stop leak for power steering units but I have no experience with them. One last thought is if the car is pretty old and the leak a slow one, you just check your power steering fluid periodically because you can buy a whole lot of power steering fluid for the price you'll pay for a power steering pump. You can also consider a replacement from a junk yard. Generally power steering pumps out last the cars they are put in.

What fluid should be used in the power steering unit?

power steering fluid. might want to think about one with stop leak if you are losing fluid often.

I have a slow power steering fluid leak in my 2001 vw beetle how much would it cost to fix. and where could the problem be coming from

could be a leak in the pressure hose, could be the return hose leaking, could be the gearbox leaking,i'd get under it with the engine running and have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth and see where it leaks from, if the pressure line is leaking its about 25 to 30 bucks for a new hose,

My 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP has a power steering leak but seems to work well. my mechanic wants to replace the whole rack and pinion, but that seems extensive for a leak. any suggestions?

Anytime a power steering compononent is leaking it requires replacement. whether or not you choose to replace it is up to you. if you lose all power steering fluid you will lose your power assist however mechanical steering ability is still maintained.

What symptoms does a Dodge Caravan have when it needs steering fluid repair of some type?

Hi sandav,

In response to your question, fluid can be low and more may need to be added. Any repair would be on the way it got low, fix the leak.

If it is low, steering at slower speeds will be difficult. An upper body workout. .

If you are having difficulties, post the symptoms you are experiencing. Might be able to help

My 99 dodge grand caravan was steering extremely hard. I found there was no fluid in the reservoir, and adding fluid didn't improve the steering. What are my alternatives at this point? Or maybe I should...

BELT INTACT?CHECK FOR LEAKS..P/S PUMP HOUSING MAY BE RUSTED OUT..STEERING RACK OR LINES MAY BE LEAKING..PUMP MAY HAVE QUIT PUMPING DUE TO LOW FLUID DAMAGING PUMP..I WOULD CHECK FOR LEAKS FIRST

Steering issues

Find the leak and repair it...It is a sealed system, if you are adding large amounts of power steering fluid, it is leaking out somewhere. Hoses, reservoir, steering box, power steering pump are places to check. You should only have to add minimal fluid to the system for the entire year.

The immediate squeal you hear is most probably the unit is out of fluid or has leaked onto the serpentine belt and causing it to slip.
Fix the leak and check your serpentine belt for wear.
