You have a bad short so if you know how to use a multimeter and you have one check to see where the power is coming from for this to stay on when your car is off.

with my car a daewoo has a switch underneath and on top of my brake pedal so all you have to do is replace that switch if yours the same place. when I have my car on that the switch gets stuck on because it is wearing out and getting bad which keeps my brake lights on when I am driving.

Flashers don't work in a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix. Don't have a book or wiring diagram to backtrace source of the possible problem.

Howdy anonymous,

Beyond the always FIRST STEP of blaming the "FLASHER"....
(see rockauto example $ below)

There immediately follows moving on out to the light bulbs and checking they (EACH & EVERY) work...

Then & only then do you start "BACK-TRACING"

I always recommend getting REAL FACTORY support documents but luckily BBB Industries has FREE documents for popular USA models: and TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS...
(foreign & domestic... (registration required... real documents))

Go to the wiring SCHEMATIC... You will find REFERENCES to both BATTERY & GROUND...

It would be really helpful to know... WORKING STATUS?

Tail lights
Brake lights
Left signal
Right signal...

If Tail lights and Brake lights work... you can
pretty much forget about BACK-TRACING altogether...

Start with your FLASHER power source and move
immediately into the "multi-contact flasher switch

2000 mercedes s500 brake light always on

The brake switch is a pressure switch mounted on the brake pedal, master cyclinder output which on pressure will contact and switch the brake lights ON.
So if the brake switch is defective then it must be replaced, check for wiring leads, the ground connection of the brake light assembly.

Brake light always on

You need a new brake switch located at the base of the brake pedal. Its cheap and easy to replace if you dont mind crawling under your dash on the floor board.

Break light is not working

Not working can mean two things for brake lights always on or always off

always on - this means the brake light switch is broken

always off - the bulbs are the likely culprit

Tail lights always on even when engine is off, and rear brake light wont come on

The tail lights dont have anything to do with the engine running or not.. you mean the brake lights are on? all the time? all of them, or just the one in the back window? If the back window brake light doest work the bulb is bad. If the brake lights stay on, the switch may be bad, out of adjustment, or the bumper for the switch fell out/broken.

It's detected an issue with your braking system....
could be low brake fluid, worn brake pads, hose or cylinder leak, faulty ABS (usually lights up ABS light as well, but not always)
