There is only one reason oil can not be added to the engine thru the valve cover. The top end of the engine must be so full of sludge, it prevents the oil from free flowing down into the oil pan.

Is replacing an oil pan in a 2004 toyota camry an easy fix ?

It isn't too hard. You need to drain the oil first ( make sure to change the gasket around the plug every time you remove and replace the plug or it will leak), then drop the oil pan... put down lots of absorber pads as there will be droppings. Have a rag on hand for your hands. Scrape and clean the old seal where the oil pan meets the engine then put on a new one once it is thoroughly cleaned. Put on new pan, or repair old one.... again make sure to replace oil pan gasket and new oil drain gasket ( around plug..) since your going that far get a new oil filter also.... fill the new filter with oil before installing, fill up the engine with new oil..ps. It takes a few minutes to run down so wait between oil bottles and check the level ( don't run the car) fill the oil until the dip stick reads full ( remember wait a few minutes between each liter of oil to give it a chance to leak into the bottom of the engine). I believe it is around 4.5 quarts including the amount needed to fill the filter.

How to change engine oil and oil filter

Drain the oil out the bottom of the oil pan there is a plug its just a bolt be careful not to drain the tranmission fluid. after all oil is drained put plug back in. remove oil filter (probably goin to need oil filter wrench). put new oil filter in place of the old one put small amount of oil on the gasket on new oil filter this will help make it easier to remove next time. if you can fill new filter up with oil before installing this will prevent dry starting. fill motor with recomended oil type and amount. you can go to any auto parts store they will set you up with everything you need an tell you the correct amounts. They even sell dvds now that will give you step by step instructions if you need further help.

How do you change the oil in a 1984 monte carlo ss

First you have to be able to slide a pan under the engine to catch the oil, Then remove the drain plug. Let all the oil drsin out while you cjange the oil filter by unscrewing it counterclockwise. Put oil on the new filter seal and screw the new filter on as snug as you can by hand.. Put the oill pand plug back in and snug it down. Don't forget the gasket washer under the plug. Slide the pan of old oil out carefully and set it where you won't step in it. Open the hood and on one of the valve covers ia a cap about 3" in diameter. Remove the cap and look inside. If yo can see the rocker arms that is it. Put 4 quarts of new oil in it, then start it. Look underneath for any leaks. Turn the engine off and ck the oil level with the dipstick. If it is a quart low, add the fith quart. If on the full line. Add no more. Only run the engine long enough to fill the oil filter . It should only take 10 seconds. If this is a v8, it should need the fiftj quart. Put the valve cover cap back on , Put he dipsatick back in, Close the hood, and deny forgetting about the pan of oil as you step in it as you move back proud of your first oil change. Always run the engine again for 5 minutes to make sure no leaks appear. Good Luck.

How do i change the oil on my 1988 toyota pick up?, and what equiptmemnt do i need? how much oil do i need? and what is the proper weight for the oil....ie 20-50 etc what are the proper part numbers for...

go to a parts store and they will give you all the right supplies and tell you how to do it. There is a drain plug on the bottom of your oil pan take plug out and let oil drain. Take out oil filter by hand or with a oil filter wrench. Take new filter and fill it with as much oil as you can without spilling it all over putting filter back in, apply a thin coat of fresh oil to the rubber ring on the oil filter and screw it back on the engine hand tight (do not tighten using a wrench). Put drain plug back in. Fill engine back up with oil. Replace oil cap> Done.

How do I drain the oil and change the oil filter?

underneath the front of your car there will be the bottom of your engine, and what will look like a large metal sink basin with rounded corners, there will be a bolt this is your drain plug get a large container to catch the oil remove the bolt, and drain as for the oil filter it is a small coffee can sized cylender on the rear of your engine after draining the oil twist off the filter (its the only Orange or brightly colored cylender on your engine) replace it with a new one put the drain plug back in and fill it back up with oil one quart at a time through the fill hole on the top of your engine untill the dipstick reads full

Due to high cost for my Ford Ranger 50k milleage service, I would like to do self-service on my car such as change engine oil, oil filter and also the Auto Transmission Fluid (ATF). Would you please...

to change your oil you will need to get some running boards so your truck will be up on angle for the oil to drain. Get an oil catcher for the old oil to drain in and some oil catch clothes for incase of spill. find the drain plug under the oil pan and loosen slow till oil comes out and make sure the catch is there and dont bring the plug out fast do it slow, after all oil is drained then you must remove the oil filter, its located on the side bottom of the engine what you will need is a gripper ring that goes around the filter to loosen it then take it off and be careful they will be some oil still inside it. when putting on the new filter make sure the oil plug is screwed back in and you want to take some new oil and put around the black seal ring on the filter then only hand tighten it. fill your truck with the recamended oil. Now for the transmission fluid the procedure is the same for the oil except you probably dont need the truck up on the running boards any more. on the transmission they will be a drain plug and catch the old fluid please like the oil after its dry put plug back in and go under hood and get a small funnel and put in the check fluid hole and start filling with the recomended fluid and the suggested how much. or put two corts and stop and check with the check stick then just keep filling till it says full on the check stick level.
