Question about 1984 Mercury Marquis

Open Question

My mom has a 1984 Mercury Marquis that stalls periodically. It has the 3.8 L engine and will start after it stalls sometimes and sometimes it will not. It has stalled when it was warm and cold. Apparently the headlights, 4 way flashers and radio all worked after it stalled. Any ideas what could be causing this?

SOURCE: Moisture inside headlight of 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis

This is a common problem. I met one person at a swap meet who claims to clean your used headlight. Try surfing the internet for this service. I saw a type of sponge ball for cleaning chrome wheels and it may fit inside the bulb opening. Either way you probably don't have enough room to work on this without taking the headlight off the car.

SOURCE: Need to change flasher relay in 1997 Mercury Grand

From the 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis 4.6L SFI 8cyl repair manual, the Flasher is located behind left side of instrument panel. The turn signal and emergency flashers are attached to the interior fuse panel. They are replaced in the same manner as the fuses and circuit breakers.

I think my car is overheating. I just did a whole bunch of engine work and sometimes when I pull up to a red light it stalls out. It isn't the timing because we've gotten it looked at. Our mechnic says...

Without hearing the noise, there is no way anyone could tell you where the noise is coming from. I would recommend taking your mechanic for a ride to show him what is happening. If it is overheating, your temperature gauge will be high (if you have a gauge) or your water temperature light light should be coming on. Make sure the light works. It should come on for at least a couple seconds when you start your engine. Anyway, if the mechanic is in the car when it stalls, he will no longer tell you that nothing is wrong.
