  • Check for a vacuum leak around the intake.
  • Make sure the air filter box is sealed good with a good air filter in it. ( I know this might seem moot but I have to mention it. Sometimes the smallest thing is the problem)
  • Check your throttle body. Make sure it is nice and tight and not loos or intact.
  • Are you getting any lights on the dash or have you pulled any codes?
  • This could also be the sock collapsing in the fuel pump restricting the fuel flow.
  • When is the last time you checked the fuel filter.
  • Last time you performed a basic tune up?

Regards, Tony

Hi,

The main reason of your car bogging down while accelerating is insufficient fuel pressure. Also Dirty fuel filter, dirty air filter, restricted exhaust, bad catalytic converter are some of the reasons behind this. Also it is a symptom of a Bad Throttle Position Sensor (TPS).Check the fuel pressure first. If the pressure reads bad, it is more likely to a bad fuel pump, or a fuel regulator or if it reads ok then the problem lies in the TPS.

Please check this link to get a detailed idea related to TPS:-

How do I fix my carb and get it to not bog in low and high rpms

Question beyond the scope of a short answer, but generally this can be caused by accelerator pump failure or misadjustment. Too rich setting can cause bog, just as too lean can. Ignition timing can also cause this, especially if vacuum advance has failed.

Probably a stuck needle valve Float. Your engine is flooding on one side bogging it down. Depending on your carbs it could be a bent constant velocity rod/pin (same thing really). The racket may be coming from the bad carb trying to stabilize with a bent rod.

Cannot accelerate 1987 E350 motor home

If it idles but bogs when the accelerator is pushed, it has carb issues(if it has been sitting for a long time probably has carb issue) or low fuel pressure. If its low fuel pressure then it could be a bad/clogged fuel filter, fuel flow problems from the tank to the fuel pump, or a bad fuel pump.

First check for any cracked pipes leading into the intake manifold If all OK (with no codes showing it probably is OK) try checking the fuel pressure regulator. If you smell fuel from the pressure regulator vacuum side arm (when the vacuum line has been disconnected) it needs to be replaced.

64' cj5. miss firing, tuned distributer, not missfiring anymore. if i give it gas it idles fine for a sec then starts to bog. i'm stuck between carb and plugs ????

Pull the plugs and look at them if they are black take a look at the carb. generally though bad plugs will give you a high speed misfire unless they are totally shot. A bog from thje carb is generally due to a bad accelerator pump (inside) or a bad power valve (also inside). Accelerator pump should give a visible squirt when you look into the carb and move the throttle linkage (do with engine off).

I would adjust the carb, then I would check the float and the needle and seat on your carb. make sure your air filter is clean. check the timing.
