Question about Mitsubishi Galant

1 Answer

My car is a Mitsubishi Galant 1995 and it uses four 12V headlights. And 2 of them are not working, is it alright just for me to bypass (or connect) the wires to the 2 other headlights that are working fine? Or will this burn all my headlights?

First find the grounding wire connection for the headlight assembly that is not working, take it apart clean it up and firmly re-attach it to vehicle ground. if that does not fix it and you know the bulbs are good, then buy yourself a new set of sockets at a parts store and put them in. easier to hook up a new set of sockets than string wire across the front of the car.

Honestly, there simply not much difficulty to the way headlights are wired on any vehicle. Standard headlights receive positive 12v from the headlight switch directly (or through a relay, if you have automatic headlights), and the switch receives power through the fuse block from the battery. When you turn the headlight switch on, you should get 12v at the input connector to your headlights. If the headlight connector is not receiving +12v at the connector when you turn the headlight switch on, check the fuse, the switch, and the relay. If the headlight assembly is receiving +12v at the connector, check the bulb. If the bulb tests good with an ohmmeter, check for a broken ground wire. That is simply all there is.

How to change headlight on 2000 galant

  • 1
Place the Mitsubishi on a flat service in park. Set the parking brake before continuing.

  • 2Open the Galant's hood and locate the headlight cover -- roughly 3-inch wide circular piece of plastic -- behind the headlight bulb intended for replacement. Turn this cover clockwise to unlock it and pull it from the headlight assembly, exposing the headlight socket below it.

    3

Hold the rear of the headlight socket and turn it counterclockwise to unlock it. Pull the headlight socket and bulb from the headlight assembly.

    4

Grab the bulb and pull it from the socket with a slight wiggling motion.

    5

Pick up the new 9003 headlight bulb using a clean, lint-free cloth and line up its prong with the slots in the socket. Never tough the bulb with your bare hands, as the oils left by your hands can cause the bulb to burn out prematurely.

    6

Slide the socket and new bulb into the headlight assembly and turn the socket clockwise to lock it into place.

    7

Place the plastic cover behind the bulb and turn it counterclockwise to lock it into place.

    8

Repeat Steps 1 through 7 for the headlight bulb on the other side of the Galant, if needed.

    9Close the Galant's hood.

I HAVE A 1995 MITSUBISHI GALANT. I AM HAVING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. THE TAIL LIGHT FUSE BLOWS OUT, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WILL ONLY ILLUMINATE WHEN I PRESS THE BRAKES. WHEN I PRESS THE BRAKES WHILE THE CAR IS...

only thing i can come up with is a fault on the back lights like a bad earth or even the wrong bulb in the wrong socket holder as this vehicle will have europeon type bulbs where the side and stop light are using a 5 watt and a 21 watt bulb and this could be in the wrong way around .Whatever the problem is its on the back lights for sure and i wouldnt be surprissed if the headlights dont come on when the brake pedal is pressed with the ignition on as well ,So check the back lights out and work slowly and methodically to check out every possibility

You can connect it..BUT when you turn your lights on, ALL 4 lights will be on, it sounds like all you need to do is change out your dimmer switch, that should fix your problem...

How do you remove front grille on mitsubishi galant 1998

Well, you will have to pop the hood and take out the bolts on top, next you need to remove the headlights as there are a few bolts behind those.  Check underneath the grille for a couple more bolts.  and it should come right out.

On the code, I assumed all cars had different codes. In case this is not true, try 1791. The radio prompts for the code. Using station preset buttons #1-4, enter the four didit code. Push #1 once, then #2 seven times, etc. After all four didgits entered, I pushed the "CD" button, and voila. Good luck!
