Why won't my 2006;envoy battery stay charged. When I disconnect the positive battery cable it shuts off. I replaced battery and alternator numerous times. I even replaced the altenator plug but it still...

there is a power leakage in the electrical system
disconnect the earth cable from the battery and place an amp meter in the circuit ( terminal to lead end) and check for current reading. the amount of current flowing will give an indication of the drain and what is likely to be still on. ( glove box light, boot light, interior light, relays, fuel pump, faulty ECM radio amp or booster diode in alternator etc)

What is the problem with my mazda sting 160i 2002 model as soon as i use electrics like lights, wipers etc, the battery runs down. i've replaced battery, regulator and alternator 3 times already. It runs...

It sounds like something is drawing current 24 hours a day. When driving, the alternator keeps everything working. After you turn off the car, the battery is being drained by a short. The short can be anywhere, wiring harness, electrical connection points, etc. Have a mechanic check the current draw on the battery when the car is not running. It should draw a very small amount of current to keep the clock working. This will prove or disprove a electrical short. It is much harder to find the short. It can be expensive to fix if it takes hours to track down the problem. I would give the mechanic a time limit for diagnosing the problem to limit your out of pocket expense. There is nothing wrong with the battery or alternator. If they cannot find the problem within a reasonable amount of time. Trade in the car and buy another one. You do not want to spend thousands of dollars in repairs on a 12 year old car or a car with over 120,000 miles. I know you already put a lot of money in your car. Sometimes it is better to take your losses now than to keep putting more and more money into a car that is nearing the end of its useful life.

1999 disco 1 sd starts when cold but when hot wont start, if you floor the gas it starts but stalls, wont start again until at least the engine cools then the idle runs high & then comes down afte

I had this same problem my 1996 discovery . oddly enough lights came on bright etc i thought ok all electrical is good .. Nope , i jumped a pair of battery cables from the negative battery post to the bracket where alternator bolts on to a ground pretty much .. This problem went away completely.. So it was just a current issue wasnt getting enough to light those spark plugs my guess or the computer was doing something else whne it diditn see all the current it needed .. i have no idea but it fixed it

Replaced battery for 2001 cadillac deville but not wont turn over ....i have power but just wont crank whats going on?

Electrical problems require tracing from where you have current to where you do not. For example, it could be dirty battery terminals, back chassis ground connection, missing engine ground strap, bad neutral safety switch, bad ignition switch, bad starter solenoid, bad starter field or armature brushes.
See if there is current at the starter solenoid, when you try to crank it, with a test light. They move further upstream if there is not.

My battery says it has 12 volts, but i don't get anything when i hit the key

Measure the voltage while cranking. If the the voltage doesn't change much, then you have a poor connection, maybe due to corrotion or loose connection which is not always obvious. If the voltage drops signicantly as you are cranking, then you have a weak battery. To crank the car you need more than voltage. The twelve volts has to have enough CURRENT as well. Currents unit is expressed in AMPERE, or AMPS for short. VOLTAGE and AMPERE always go together to give you electrical power. If you want to know how much electrical power you have you just multiply Voltage by Current., and you get WATTAGE. Usually in automotive wattage is not used much since the voltage is always around 12 volts and therefor power is determined by just AMPERE. I HOPE THIS WILL SHED MORE LIGHT TO UNDERSTANDING WHY YOUR CAR WONT CRANK EVEN IF THERE WAS 12 VOLTS.

Current drain

Check the light under the hood, the switch may be bad and the light stay's on all the time and over the visor. Check to make sure the vanity light is off also.  It's just a start and i have known also that the 4X4 actuator will drain too. Keep me posted, be glad to help and it sounds like it's going to be a gremlin to find the battery drain.

96 Isuzu Rodeo electrical problems (Car wont start)

It has to be an electrical connection as you say. The Anti Lock Brake system light is probably just a deprograming of the computer. Due to the electrical problem. Have you check for current at the starter ? Have sombody turn the key as if starting it. Then with a test light check for current at the starter connections. This will give you an idea whre to look for an open circuit or short.

91 festiva wont start

First make sure that the battery is charged up all of the way and that a positive 12V current is reaching the positive terminal of the starter motor. You can test it with an inexpensive 12V test light available from any auto parts store for about $10. You need that for diagnosing any electrical problems if you have checked the fuses and they are all good. Its also possible that the fusable link got shorted out and that will stop the car from turning over. The fusable links are 3 wires sticking up from a small box on the drivers side shock mount in the engine compartment. Check that they are not burned. If all of that is good, then use your test light to see if 12V current is reaching the ignition switch under the plastic cover behind the steering wheel and on the opposite side of the key.
