Hi there?
If they got carbon deposit bult up round the injector, it helps to sock it in cocacola. Yeah i know weird but it does the trick.
If there is no such thing then try twisting them left and right and eventually it will give up, you may need to use a hamer........
Good luck.........

Our volvo XC90 had black smoke from the exhaust. My husband was driving it through a shallow stream and the engine stopped. It took him a while to get it started again. After three weeks of it being at the...

Before spending anymore money for those parts you need to remove the fuel from the tank and remove the tank and clean it. The repair facility should have done a fuel sample test. The fuel pump could be damaged.

Then put in fresh fuel, a new fuel filter and see how it runs. The injectors can be spray tested to see how they are working. You need someone familiar with diesels to work on your engine.

If the exhaust pipe was under water in the stream it could draw water into the cylinders. The injectors are at the top of the cylinders and are pressurized. Since your husband started the car again there is only a small chance of any permanent damage and its more likely a O2 sensor in the exhaust has shorted, throwing off the computer.

If there is no "check engine" light, the sensors and injectors should be good.

Misfire on #3

Re: 2000 Volvo S40 L4 1.9 Liter L4 1.9 Liter Turbo FI

Are you consider yourself a handy person?

Swap the coil and see is the misfire going to follow to another bank of cylinder.

You has total of 3 coil in your engine.

Do a detail record map and switch the two coils.

A replacement aftermarket coil is oil $46 w/one year warranty and $55 will get you a life time warrent coil.

Do the swap and see what happen.

A leaky/failing injector can also cause the same problem.

Do a Chevron Techron fuel injector clean ran and highway ran.

Good luck
