Question about Kia Rio

1 Answer

I recently had the brake pads of my 2007 Kia Picanto replaced because the front brakes were making an irritating metal-to-metal screeching sound. Now, it still makes a sound whenever I step on the brake. I was told that I need to have something in the brake assemble re-faced. Is it true? What cound be the cause of the sound? Thanks.

If the rotors were not turned when the pads were replaced, then it is true. Also, if the pads are not the correct material for the car )i.e. Metallic, Semi-Metallic) then they will squeak. Also, there is a sensor that may be bent that touches the rotor in order to notify you the pads are getting low, and that may need adjusting (just needs to be bent out a little bit). Check you invoice for the pad repair and make sure the rotors were turned, if not return the car to the location you had the pads replaced and ask why they weren't. Let me know if I can help you any further.

Had a free brake check done it says pads front near side 8.14mm.disc drums 15.61.off side pads 8.24,disc drums 15.91 .must be done now.is this correct.this in on a Kia picanto 2008.automatic

8.14mm (0.320 inch), 15.61mm (0.6145 in)
Is this the pads or disks and drums they're measuring? Drums at 15.61 seem to be plenty thick. Especially when they don't do much braking.

I would contact a auto parts supply company and just ask them what those specifications are for your vehicle, they should have the numbers because they sell replacement parts.

After car wash, brakes made a screeching noise. How do I get rid of this? It sounds like metal rubbing against metal so I haven't moved it.

SOUNDS LIKE U HAVE METALLIC PADS. TOTALLY NORMAL. THE PADS WILL BED IN AND THE SCREECHING SOUND WILL GO AWAY. SUGGEST U GET A BETTER NON-METALLIC PAD INSTALLED IF U DON'T WANT TO HEAR SCREECHING NOISES EVERY TIME THE PADS GET WET. I'M ALSO ASSUMING U HAVE NO MORE THAN 50,000 MILES ON THE PADS AND THE PADS AND DISCS ARE IN GOOD SHAPE.

Squealing sound - front driver's side brakes

This sounds like a wear indicator( a metal tab on the brake pad) is doing its job, warning you that the brake pads need replacement soon. you can bend the wear indicators away from the rotor so they won't make contact. This will stop the annoying noise. Replace the pads and check the brakes soon. Brake pads should always be changed on both wheels at thge same time, so change the other front pads also.

Noisey brakes kia sportage

you may have" lifetime" pads that are extra hard or rubber insulators are worn out start there and get back to us screeching is usualy a result of using the wrong lube instead of what came with the break pads
