It could mean that the starter is bad, but it could also be something easy like a loose connection on the battery a bad battery wire, or a dead battery indicating the alternator may not be functioning
you stated that you have been having problems starting it, I am assuming that it was really slow cranking over which is why you replaced the battery. if this is the case then you are probably in need of a starter.
hope this helps

97 buick century was running after jump started, when put in reverse it died and wont start when jump start, no chimes or lights come on at all

Dangerous practice to try & jump a near dead battery

Always try charging a battery, that is only a couple years
old & not run down more than two or three times

If the battery is dead & reads less than 12 volts, have a parts
store test it or just replace it.

Jumping a cars battery is not a fix for anything,so I fail to
see how your lost & have not addressed the battery issue,
so you can continue on with other testing,if needed

When should i change the oil in a 01 buick century

Same as on all your vehicles
When ever you like

I would suggest 3 to 4 times a year
depending on how many miles you go

Average--about 3,000 to 4,500 miles
between changes

I would use 5W-30 Full Syn,any brand

Mobil one does a good job of keeping
the oil pan at least clean,I have pulled a couple
It is at Wal Mart

Keyless entry doesn;t work

Try replacing the battery in the remote control that goes on the keychain.

These frequently go bad and my need to be replaced.

I think you can have them replaced at a department store like Wal-Mart or an automotive parts store.

You probably have a dead battery. It could be due to a bad alternator, yes, but battery may need replaced. Put battery on charger overnight and see if it starts. Have battery tested, replace if needed.

97 buick century sputtering and stalling

He has gotten a bad load of fuel. Try a can of dry gas to emulsify the water, but if there is too much for the dry gas to handle, the tank may have to be cleaned. I would also replace the fuel filter also, the gas may also be dirty enough to restrict the filter.
