For this vehicle its one or the other you are equipt with a MAF (Mass airflow meter) and a MAP(manifold air pressure) you problem will be one of these sensor, Start with the mass air flow disconnect this sensor its at the air cleaner air duct with this disconnected you should be able to accelerate(but not that good) if you can then this is the problem and a replacement is in order, Now here the tricky part the MAP is a back up just incase the MAF fails it monitor the EGR, If you disconnect the maf and it runs better you will need a maf sensor.if you replace it with a known working one and there is no difference you have a MAP problem.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I almost spent $800 on a fuel pump. I have been having the same problem with my 2000 impala. One day it just turned off on me then why i tired starting it it was crank over but then shut off. I thought it might of be the fuel pump because that is what everyone was telling me it was. I ran the car until it shut off, tried starting it to see if it would start up, it would not. I disconnected the sensor and the car started right up and stayed running. Thank you so much!

This could be a bad ground on the ECM. When it is in park it is open loop. When you put it in gear, the ecm goes closed loop with the oxygen sensors and with no ground it dies.

95 Park Avenue Ultra dies for no reason I can find, I've replaced the crank sensor, cam ssensor, spark module, fuel filter, I've had the injectors tested, fuel pump tested, plugs & wires t

As you have probably figured out by now, you will have to treat it as a no start and troubleshoot it when it fails to start. Until you figure out if you are loosing spark or fuel to the injectors when the engine dies you have no direction to go in.

Changing fuel filter in 2001 pontiac sunfire gt 2.4 litre and changing plugs

You all really need to get more specific. You've just got a situation here, no question.
The fuel filter is integrated into the fuel pump, inside the fuel tank.
Spark plugs are easy.
