Unfortunatly yes it sounds like from your descrption that you have a "dead spot" in the starter. If you have not changed one in these vehicles the top bolt can be a bear to get to, i recomend using a 1/4 inch ratchet, swivel and several differant lenght extensions to get it out, 3/8 will work but can be a tight fit..
