How to diagnose a bad brake boosterOn my 95 GMC Suburban K 1500 4 x 4 5.7 v8

Hi, your basic symptoms will be. Your brake pedal. Will be very hard to push. When the pedal is engaged there will be a large vacuum leak, usually causing the engine to be very ruff or stall. If its bad enuff, youll hear the the air leak when pedal is depressed, hope that helps.

My car shuts down when i hit brakes i have new battery.

It may be a ruptured diaphram in the brake booster. It is loosing vaccum inside the booster, and it stalls the engine because vaccum comes from the engine manifold while running. Good-Day! But check the hoses to booster for a leak first! If the booster is bad. Push on the pedal with your hand. and you will hear a hissing sound from booster if bad.

I have a 1995 K1500. I have had every part of the brake system replaced and still no brakes. when I stump on them it feels like your pushing on a brick wall, then they leak down to almost the floor be

That hard pedal is a sign of a vacuum leak on the brake booster.Check the vacuum hose on the booster for holes and with the engine running have someone push the brake pedal while someone else watches the hose to see if it is collapsing when the brake is applied. If it does that will be your problem.Replace the 3/8 vacuum booster hose.It will have to be the thick hose just for a vacuum booster or it will do the same thing if that is what is wrong.

My 1994 chevy k1500 is having brake probs. Pedal goes half way to the floor before beginning to engage, and then takes lots of pressure to actually stop. Could this be the brake booster or is it more...

could be booster, could be air in system, could be master cylinder. Check reservoir. If it is out, you have leaks and air in lines. If no, listen for air leaks under dash as you push pedal. If air leak, replace booster.
If no air leak, check for vacuum at hose going into booster. If no vacuum, check hose connection to intake manifold.
If no leaks and booster is good, suspect master cylinder.

Let me know if you have questions.

check 2 things first one is their is a plastic check valve that is inserted into the booster (under your hood) then goes to a vaccum line ,then to the engine, pull it out of the booster and check the valve it should be L - shaped. it might have a hole in it causing a vaccum leak. be carefull pulling it out not to break it just pull straight out. if that is ok put it back in. then your problem is going to be the brake booster the big black round case. sometimes the diaphram inside the booster rips causing a vaccum leak which causes a hard brake pedal and you have to stand on the pedal to stop. then you will have to repace the whole thing but not the master cylnder unbolt master cylder with the brake lines connected, the lines will give then disconnect brake pedal arm under dash inside of trk their should be 2 nuts or 4 buts under dash on inside of firewall near brake pedal then remove booster pulls out from under hood. there is not much to replacing them.

check under dash for a leaky vaccum switch. if booster was faulty brake pedal would be very hard to depress.
