Question about 1995 Mazda 626

1 Answer

My 1995 Mazda 626 is seriously lacking power. slows for 60 to 40 on hills and is miss firing. we replaced the spark plugs and it kept doing it and fouled all 4 within 2 days. it idles fairly well, runs great when cold it strugles more and more the hotter it gets. it does not over heat though.

Exhaust Converter -worn out & blocked?

Did you check fuel pressure while driving,
gauge taped to windshield

If you go thru the entire car testing as you
go ,you will find the problem

That said you most likely don't have the
knowledge or tools to do so

Loss of power, upper right side rattle, idles and runs rough.

is the 2.0 or 2.5? check timing idler pully (upper) fails frequently on 2.5, also check for arcing in the sparkplug tube. #3 on 2.0 (most common) # 5 [first] # 2 [second (toward firewall)] on 2.5 {most common} my 2.5 had spark plug tube arcing on #5, could barely pull a hill in 5th. idled like badly and had slight knocking/rattling sounds. replaced that wire, had a spare from old set, now pulls hills in 5th at 80mph

1997 mazda 626 won't start.

Are the plugs wet with fuel?
Check for spark. No spark? it may be the ignition module.

Plugs dry and spark present? No fuel?Spray a little starting fluid and see if it will run on that.
Then check pump fuses and for fuel pump noise.

What does it mean if I start my mazda 626 and the plug shoots out and the vehicle shakes

I assume you mean the spark plug. What it means is that the spark plug stripped out it's holder threads in the head, the head is now junk unless you can do a correct helicoil tap, or better yet, you replace the head, and How the HECK did you manage to pull that off!? That's insane! BTW: Once again, assuming you mean the spark plug, the shaking is because one cylinder is not firing, so the normally near-even firing, at least one power stroke creating power at once, is not working, and it has no torque during that time. The next power stroke sends torque down the crank, which rapidly accelerates again, shaking during that acceleration.

1995 Mazda 626 -what is the firing order on a 2,5lt engine? I have # one turned to the top and the timing mark on the crank is right on but the rotor is on #6 plug. Doesn't make sense to me. When I turn it...

I read that the firing order was '1,2,3,4,5,6' which is easy to remember: prev.gif next.gif FIRING ORDERS NOTE: To avoid confusion, remove and tag the spark plug wires one at a time, for replacement. If a distributor is not keyed for installation with only one orientation, it could have been removed previously and rewired. The resultant wiring would hold the correct firing order, but could change the relative placement of the plug towers in relation to the engine. For this reason it is imperative that you label all wires before disconnecting any of them. Also, before removal, compare the current wiring with the accompanying illustrations. If the current wiring does not match, make notes in your book to reflect how your engine is wired. I have a 2002 2.4 lt Mazda MPV sports and when your driving the car seems to have a little miss. It seems to be the worse when your cruising around the 80kms its like a misfire or something, its hard to...

missing would show itself at low engine speeds.bad starting.or heavy load (going up steep hills)a miss at high speed would not be felt (normally)without other symptoms(lack of power etc)have you tried using higher octane fuel......mazda rec 92+ octane...
