Question about 2000 Ford Focus

My left signal light starts slow for about 4/5 blinks then goes double the speed (the front signal light doesnt blink) Also the indicator on the dash stays on solid weather or not the signal is on. My left headlight is also extremely dim, and new bulbs were put in about 3 months ago. My wiper blades wont move. When i turn the wipers on, they move about an inch and then stop moving. I plan on checking the relays for wiper blades but I don't know about the blinker. All these problems started about 2 weeks ago.

    I've had someone check all the grounds they could find, they were all fine :S

Check your grounds. You can use a jumper wire from the battery ground post to the ground circuit of each component. For testing.

    check the grounds, one on each side, behind the kick panels at driver & passenger side floor. Make sure clean and tight.

    Also, I am very suspect of Ground G37, left hand side of engine compartment. Left headlamp & wiper both ground there. Check that one, and in fact, connect an extra jumper wire from the battery ground post to that ground wire & see what happens.



    That is a common ground.

    OK great work.



    For the battery light - We need to know what the battery voltage is at the battery. It should be about 12 1/2 with engine off and about 14 1/2 with the engine running. If very high, like 18 volts, it is overcharging and will turn the light on too. Check fuse #10, red, 10 amp, in the engine compartment fuse panel first. Report findings.

    The PCM (engine computer) controls your alternator output. It will not be the PCM, never is. Here's info from the shop manual:



    The charging system voltage is controlled by the powertrain control module (PCM). The generator charges the battery and at the same time it supplies all the electrical loads that are required. The battery is more effectively charged with a higher voltage when the battery is cold and a lower voltage when the battery is warm. The PCM is able to adjust the charging voltage according to battery temperature by using a signal from the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor. This means that the voltage setpoint is calculated by the PCM and communicated to the regulator by a communication link.

    The PCM simultaneously controls and monitors the output of the generator. When the current consumption is high or the battery is discharged the system is able to increase the idle speed.

    To minimize the engine drag when starting the engine, the PCM controls the generator. The generator does not produce any output until the engine has started. The PCM then progressively increases the output of the generator.

    The PCM controls the operation of the charging system warning indicator in the instrument cluster. The PCM is therefore responsible for turning the warning indicator off after the engine is started and illuminating it under fault conditions (when the generator is not generating the correct amount of current with the engine running). The warning indicator will also be illuminated by the PCM at key - on engine off and stall conditions.

    I think your alternator is OK and the internal voltage regulator as well. I would not change it yet.



    this sounds like a PCM control wiring issue. Your voltages are all good.



    Need to know when the light comes on. And when it's on, what is the voltage reading. The light will come if it's overcharging too. And that is usually a corroded wire between the battery and the alternator (heavy wire).



    66% of alternators replaced are not defective.

Could be a faulty socket too. The flasher "blinks" slow when all lights are functioning. A short to ground, to another circuit, or an open circuit can make the flasher blink fast.

The easiest thing for you to do would be to replace the bulbs that are on that circuit. You should have one or two bulbs with a double filament, one for the brake and turn signal and one for the tail light.
If that does not fix the problem, someone will need to check the circuit for power from the turn signal switch. It takes all of the lights on one side to make the turn signal flash.

I would check each bulb on the side with the most issue, usually when one light goes out,for whatever reason, the system is designed to malfuntion signalling an alert to the operator..with the lights and hazards on, check each fixture for good operation while opening up each light take the bulbs out and inspect them for defects, replace with new if anything is doubtful be careful with the bulb grease dont get any on the contact points because it will get hot and cause small issues.. do each light at a time until all 4 are working fix any defects to include burnt fixtures and broken wires and make sure all grounds are good also, these connectors are notorious for rust and corrosion so clean them well before reinstalling , I use the same bulbs in my 92 dodge so i am aware of the type..good luck..

Check the bulb socket for a burnt or a shorted condition. Remove bulb and try another bulb, if it does it again then you have a short in the socket or wiring to bulb. Turn on the 4 way flashers and see what it will do. If it continues then look for any burnt wire connector or wireing to bulb. Check the wiring behind the light for any metal that has cut into the wiring insulation. Hope this will help you.

Signal light blinking too fast


I just had that problem with my jeep cherokee and either your bulb has burned out or it is burning out. Time to replace it. Turn the signal light lever on the side that's flashing fast, get out of the vehicle and look at the front and back signal lights and replace the one that isn't blinking...hope this helps.

I would start by checking the blinker light bulb on the left side front and or rear,some vehicles will blink real fast and some wont blink at all when a bulb goes bad.
