Question about Honda Accord

1 Answer

My 1999 Honda Accord V6 has over 300,000 kms and has been towed behind my motorhome for another 25,000. Recently the transmission has been getting a little jerky going into 2nd and 3rd gear..but not consistently. Should I be looking at replacing the transmission or will servicing it help.

Servicing refers to changing the trans fluid only

That is not a fix for anything

The fluid gets changed on ALL vehicles
every 30,000 miles ONLY because it breaks
down from the heat

Removing the heat is it's main job

I can not even imagine a transaxle going
300,000 k or 180,000 miles

I was in the trans repair business once &
have never seen that.

It doesn't owe you anything, if you rebuild it
in the future

I would not flat tow it though, your turning the
diff & other components, that's not good

It is very important that this is done properly, transmissions and engines can be ruined. Consult your owners manual and your dealer.

Can a 2009 honda element be towed behind our motorhome? If so how.

If it is a manual shift there is no problem.
If it is an automatic, it depends on whether there is a rear drive oil pump or only the front one driven by the engine.
Many cars only have an automatic transmission oil pump that is engine driven, so can't be towed with wheels on the road.
Don't know about an Element.

Can you dingy tow a 1999 gmc jimmy behind a motorhome!

Yes, but you have to either leave the engine idling or use trailer. GM transmissions get lubrication from the INPUT side of the unit, and there is no lubrication with engine off, you will cause damage.

You can also trailer, or release axle shafts...A pain, but less costly than fried trans....

Flat tow?

very few automatic cars can be towed, the transmission is driven by the wheels and overheats. A possible alternative is to use a tow dolly with front wheel drive cars.

How do i tow a 2006 mazda6 behind a motorhome

You'll have to put it on a dolly. Automatic transmissions do not take kindly to being towed because they don't get lubricated. The oil pump in an automatic trans runs off the input shaft, so the engine has to be running. Hope this helps.

1999 Accord Coupe V6 A/T Prolem

That transaxle has long been a problem for Honda & they have NEVER really properly engineered it to be free of defects Unfortunately. I had a similar problem at around 66,000 miles with my V6 Accord EXL Coupe & at that time Honda did the right thing and repaired the transmission but made me pay for the labor (a fair yet semi-expensive) fix but reasonable. Then more recently around 152,400 miles the transmission failed again & began slipping. I had asked for Honda to do another fix of the transmission & I pay for the labor BUT they refused. I find it sad when a major company does not stand behind a product they know has had defects & issues throughout the entire product line of the V6 Accord & Odyssey (which use the same transaxle) & instead states from the warranty booklet (which I understand but think a Honda vehicle should last for several hundred thousand miles) especially when the owner followed & follows all of the recommended preventative maintenance in the service handbook from Honda...especially when the car looks like it is brand new & now it has a New Transmission too...no thanks to Honda corporate :)
