If your vehicle is diesel with an allison then it's a neutral saftey switch if it's regular 5.3/6.0 the you could have a faulty vss ( vehicle speed sensor located on the transfer case and the speedometer might be s seperate issue they been known to short and you just have to replaced them .

I have found that when you are going to engauge 4x4 high, it is best to only be going about 3 miles an hour. Not faster, not stopped. It likes some movement to help it mesh. I've had perfect shifts since I started this. Hope it helps. Wade.

My obdominor does not work in my 2003 sierra

If the speedometer works, but the odometer does not, the problem is in the cluster. If the speedometer and odometer do not work, you should have a check engine light and the trouble code will probably be for the speed sensor in the transmission.

Transmission won't shift out of first gear and speedometer stopped working on a 1995 gmc sierra pickup truck

Could be the speed sensor in the transmission. I would check that component first.

there is a speed sensor that connects to the transmission. cheap fix but i would check that. also, the cable connections should be checked to make sure they are not corroding.

Speedometer cable how a 1500 gmc siarria

They don't have cables, the speed signal is delivered electronically to the computer then to the instrument cluster. If your gauges aren't reading correctly it's most likely due to failing stepper motors on your cluster's circuit board, very common on all 03-06 GM vehicles. There was not a recall, but there was a class action settlement where GM agreed to extend the warranty on certain vehicles for this problem. Check www.gmspeedometerrecall.com to see if you qualify.
