Keep in mind the car was running before I changed the pugs and filter.

The car was running before I changed the plugs and filters. It now seems like it has either a timing issue. I really have no clue.

I can probably post a you tube video if that would help you

Yes I purchased the correct plugs, and placed the fuel filter in the right direction. It seems to fouling out the number 3 and 4 plugs when trying to start it. This car has coil packs it seems to me they might be the problem.

  • If your fouling two plugs it sounds to me like you have the right idea in suspecting the coil packs. This would be the first thing I would check.
  • You can unplug the coil pack and check the Ohms on each coil with and Ohm meter. Label the coil wire before you remove them to be tested. Set it to 20,000 Ohms and stick the positive in the coil hole and ground the negative.
  • This could also be a Crank Shaft sensor but if you suspect them two cylinders as fouling try testing and or replacing the coil packs or the coil wires.
Regards, Tony

Are you sure you purchased the correct spark plugs for the vehicle and if so did you get the plug wires back on the correct cylinder plugs? Another possible problem is that you placed the fuel filter in the wrong flow direction. there should be an arrow on the filter indicating the direction of the fuel flow to the engine.

The engine runs rough and then dies because the fuel quantity delivered by the injectors is too low and the mixture becomes too lean to light up so the engine stalls. Even if you have replaced the fuel filter the dirt might have got past it and clogged the injectors. You will have to clean them professionally. Also check the fuel that you still have in the tank - it might be contaminated with dirt and water.

Unless you have mismatched or damaged the plugs cables when you have replaced them the timing has nothing to do with it. It's easy to check for that: just test them with an ohmmeter - the one with infinite resistance is defective and it will have to be replaced.

Yes that high pitch sound at the end of both attempts is a sign that something is wrong with the timing of the engine : the valves will have to be inspected and all the elements if the ignition, starting with leads, will have to be tested.

Well is the check engine light on or have you tested for codes yet? and it sounds like it could be a sensor issue, and if you didnt replace the distributor and cap and rotor that could be an issue also

check items in your fuel lines first, filter, pressure regulator....could be anything running down that line, don't waste your money on a fuel pump until it's the last option

check timing, see if belt may have slipped out of timing, and need pressure tester to test pressure where the fuel goes into the fuel filter. check for vaccuum leaks.
