Question about 2003 Isuzu Rodeo

Open Question

My 2003 Isuzu Rodeo fan switch is stuck between fan speed 2 and 3. It only blows cold air when the truck is moving. I ordered a new fan switch and I hope this will solve the problem. Everything else works on the a/c control module and the parts guy said all I needed was a new fan switch. Does this sound correct?

Easy fix. Usually the blower motor resistor gets messed up. (Page 3-8 Haynes manual 47017). The dash light could be a few things. All my bulbs went bad. Little bit of a hassle but no problem with the book.

There are two drain plugs on the bottom of the pan. remove the lower one to drain the trans fluid. To refill, use a pump and pump the fluid into the upper drain plug until it seeps out and re-install the plug, similar to refilling a manual trans.
Once this is done, Start the vehicle and run it for about 3 minutes, shifting through all gears (do not drive vehicle Remove the upper drain plug and let any excess fluid drain out. Done. This is as per Mitchell OnDemand.

You didn't say whether you had a V6 engine or a 4cyl. Here is the procedure for a V6.

It sounds like he moved the cam shaft independently of the crankshaft or other camshaft so you will need to do all these procedures:

1. Turn the crankshaft until the mark on the spocket is lined up with the mark on the oil pump housing (the mark is on the driver's side at 90 degrees to the sprocket itself).

2. Back off the crankshaft counterclockwise 1/8 turn to ensure the pistons aren't at top dead center. This gives the valves room to move without hitting the piston.

3. Turn the passenger's side camshaft until it "jumps" into place with the alignment mark on the camshaft pully is pretty close to being lined up with the mark on the engine head.

4. Turn the driver's side camshaft until it "jumps" into place but this won't be perfectly lined up with the mark but will be about an 1/8 turn off from the mark. Then line it up by hand.

5. The idler pulleys and tensioner pulleys should be installed on the engine but the tenioner pulley adjuster (it is a little cylinder with a rod coming out of it that is held in place by 2 bolts) should be removed.

6. Place the new belt on the crankshaft first. Be sure the arrows on the belt point in a clockwise direction. If you have a belt with lines and dots then the lines will line up with all markings that you have lined up together. The dots should line up at the 270 degree point on the crankshaft (opposite of the lines and the markings).

7. Loop the belt around the tensioner pulley, around the passenger's side cam, under the waterpump, around the driver's side cam, and finally around the idler pulley. Check all alignments.

8. Put the tesioner adjuster in a vise and squeeze it together until you can place a small drill bit or allen wrench through the holes to keep it compressed.

9. This is the tricky part. You will need to install the tensioner adjuster and that will require some moving of the belt to allow enough play to get the adjuster in place. This may move the passenger's side alignment. If so, you will need to try it again. I find that if you move passenger's side alignment mark clockwise by one tooth of the sprocket, then when you go to put the tensioner in place it lines up. You may find other tricks to overcome this challenge.

10. Once you think you have everything lined up. Use a wrench to turn the crankshaft sprocket 2 full turns. Listen closely and feel for any hard resistance as you do this to determine if the pistons are hitting the valves. If you believe they are hitting each other thenrepeat the adjustment procedure. Not doing this can ruin the valves or more.

11. If everything seems OK. remove the drill bit or allen wrench from the tension adjuster. Perform step 10 again for one final check.

SOURCE: no power to fuel pump 1996 isuzu rodeo

well i got a salvaged ecm from a junkyard and put it in, still did'nt start. took alternator off to have it checked , it is fine. put it back in and now it starts and runs fine. check the alternator and the connections, i heard the alternator controls power after the initial ecm prime when it is turned on. i have no idea how true it is, but worth a shot. if you can find a cheap ecm for a junkyard (mine was 75 bucks) i would try that afterwords.

Heater/ Air Conditioner is not blowing on 2004 Isuzu Rodeo. If it is left on vent air flowing through will be hot/cold. Every once in a while, it will kick on, after hitting a bump, or driving reaching...


start the heater with the fan on lift the hood locate the blower motor and give it a tap if the blower starts the motor is getting worn . If it don't come on I would say the switch is worn

How do you check if the power if available to the fan when high speed is selected?


just unplug the fan motor and connect a tester with a light bulb to it turn the fan control on and watch for the light to get brighter as the speed goes up, if it does replace the fan motor . if not check fuses and power to the switch itself.good luck

Ac fuse blowing, in 1996 isuzu rodeo


Disconnect wire to Air Conditioning Compressor and connect normal test light to wire, from engine harness(body)side. Fit new fuse and try air cond controls and switch, test light should light up and hopefully fuse wont blow indicating short in compressor clutch windings(replace compressor). If fuse blows while doing this test compressor might be ok and fault short some where else, fan speed resistor block, fan or control/switches, wiring.

This is normally the blower motor resistor rather than the speed control...To test the resistor it is located at blower motor..normally no less than 4 wires are in the connector that plugs into resistor...unplug resistor connector,turn ignition on...turn speed control on at all speeds while checking connector at all wire ends of connector...check each wire at all speeds If you have power at all speeds then the resistor has failed...If you dont have power but at only 1 or 2 then the speed control switch has came slightly disconnected at back of switch or the control switch has failed.

2001 ISUZU RODEO, FAN SWITCH FOR A/C WORKS INTERMITANTLY, WHEN ON HIGH SPEED BLOWS AT SLOWER SPEED. aLSO FAN WILL JUST GO OUT SOME TIMES ON STARTUP THEN COM ON LATER. A/C UNIT IS RUNNING BUT NO AIR BECAUSE...


The motor goes bad because leaves and such make their way down and clog it's air intake. Pick up a new one at your local auto parts store if you have to.

It's four screws on the motor housing, located under the glove box (2 screws) and the wiring is harnessed, so no sweat there.

While it's off, reach up into the cavity that feeds it air on the upper left.

You may want to wear a glove. The design on this generation Rodeo is horribly flawed. I pulled a squirrel-sized wad of rotten leaves and pine needles from mine after replacing the motor and resistor twice.

Like drinking a milkshake through a coffee stirrer, you know that's bad for a motor. I clean mine out every fall, before running the heat non-stop all winter.

The extra air flow most likely turns the fan motor, check the fuses, check the fan motor switch for power if O.K. check the fan motor for power..

2000 isuzu rodeo, ac blows outside air temp, i tried to recharge. when i connected unit the gauge read 70 psi. i let out psi to 50. put the charge in and it took 90% of can and read 55 psi. it still blows...


COULD BE A FEW DIFFERENT THINGS. HAVE YOU TRIED TO SWAP THE A/C RELAY FOR ANOTHER? IT COULD BE A BAD ACCUMULATOR SWITCH OR A CLOGGED ORIFICE TUBE, OR A DEFECTIVE LOW PRESSURE CUT-OFF SWITCH.
