Hi Because your jeep is a diesel there is a vacuum pump driven by the engine which supplies
Vacuum to the brake servo unit ( Thats the big circular thing that the brake master cylinder is attached to )
The problem could be the pump, the servo,or simply a vacuum leak ( between the pump and servo )
you would normally be able to hear a vac leak.
If you are able to pull the hose off the servo hold your thumb over the end of it and you should feel strong suction
If you apear to have good suction then the problem is the servo itself (leaking vac internally )
I hope your problem turns out to be a simple one good luck

A hard brake pedal and ineffective brakes is a sign of a loose or leaking vacuum hose to the brake booster. That vacuum hose might've been mistakenly loosened when the other repair was done to the vehicle.

I have a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. I just had new front brakes put on, replaced the front bumper and a lightbulb for the rear blinker. Now my cruise control doesn't work.

Au contrer . the brake pedal should be up all the way, or your sw that turns on brake lights also affects cruse....when your brake pedal is slightly pushed it disconnects the cruise. Did you bleed brakes properly?

When driving I press on the brakes and they push back up and it's hard to stop what could be wrong I checked the brake fluid and the lid was open a little

Try a brake servo test by pumping the brake pedal until hard and keeping pressure on the pedal and start the engine and if the servo is working the pedal should move down slightly if not servo is faulty
If you have ABS the pump could be faulty and that needs a trained engineer to test and repair if possible

What could be wrong ?? first push of brake pedal is excellent, second push is hard with no braking, drive for 5 minutes then pedal is good again on first push then second hard again, vacuum is working

You mention vacuum is working, but the symptoms point straight at the power assist for the brakes being faulty, probably the vacuum accumulator. I'd stop driving it and get it looked at ASAP

Why is it so hard to apply brake pedal?

_______power brake booster, check vacuum to booster and the check valve for brake booster. primary symtom is high hard pedal that requires greater then normal pedal pressure to stop car. testing booster= pump brakes several times with engine off to deplete stored vacuum. turn on engine with pushing slightly on brake pedal. you should be able to feel the pedal fade away a bit, and then become firm. But not hard. if you feel nothing at the pedal when engine starts. Brake booster is not working. Good-day! make sure vacuum is going to booster with engine running. it may just be a bad vacuum line or check valve.

My Hyundai 2003 front brakes overheat and stop the car from moving. What might be the course?

Hi,
How far do you drive before it starts to happen? ....Do you use your Left Foot to push the brake pedal? Are you sure your foot is not on the pedal while driving?

It sounds as if the caliper is 'frozen' - the caliper is what squeezes the brake rotor/disc and slows down the car.

The ABS light is usually a speed sensor problem and is a GM nuisance . it should not affect normal braking. It might be a booster for power assist problem, which will affect normal braking (expensive). Get rid of that old GMC.

2003 trail blaizer abs press brake pedal its hard sounds like vacuum leak under dash

your brakes are what is called power brakes if your vechile did not have power brakes it would be hard to push the brake pedal down the power brake booster is ran off vacume from the motor if your booster is bad it will give a hissing sound or simalar there not hard to replace but you have no tools or experince dooing repairs like this its best left to a shop.

I have a dodge caravan that has the ABS and the BRAKE light on the pedal is rally hard but it goes away once in a while for like a day and all over again

Dodge used an ABS system for 2 years that didn't have a vacuum booster. Instead it used ABS pressure from the pump motor for the power brakes. This is the system you have. The ABS pump is mounted on top of the transmission. Is the pump running when the pedal is hard to push? Sometimes the pressure sensor in the ABS module will go bad and the pump won't run. You will get a hard pedal and the ABS light and the BRAKE lights will be on. The code in the ABS control module will be LOW BRAKE ACCUMULATOR PRESSURE.

This may sound dum but its been done a few times and is a simple mistake , the bleeder screw is up top, with the caliper on the bleeder screw should be up top, if not then calipers are on the wrong side, it sounds like air in the system, also you pumped the pedal up to push out the piston so pads hit rotor after bleeding,i dont see anything else, if the pedal is good with pinched lines at caliper then it got to be calipers are wrong or on the wrong side and the bleeder is not atop caliper, also you bleed the rear also? these trucks and cars use left caliper and rt rear on one system of the master and rt front and left rear on one side, let me know about the caliper, heres a picture to show you what i mean. hope this helpsjohnjohn2_23.jpg

When you press on the brake? Have your brake vacuum assist checked. It,s that bigspaceship looking thing between the brake master cylinder an firewall. good luck and be safe.
