Question about Ford Mustang

Car keeps blowing the 2 fuses that controll the starter. #3 and 5 40amp maxie fuses. Intermitent.

There is short-circuit somewhere in the starter wiring, check and replace if necessary (especially wires near starter or starter itself)

Have a 1999 Dodge Avenger V6. Keeps blowing Engine Fuse under hood


Fusible link 3 feeds the PCM. the ASD relay, and fuel pump relay. Assuming it has A/T, that fusible link also feeds the starter relay, the EATX-ECM, and the EATX relay. A short in any of those elements could be causing the trouble.

Keeps blowing starter fuse has new starter does it every once in a while


Check and follow the wires check for cuts, tears loose wires. Usually the starter wires lead to the battery check around that area. Check the connections on the starter maybe it's grounding where it's not suppose to.

Check the battery too I had a battety that moved and arc into the hood it would engage the the starter while the car was running all kinds of strange things.

i had this problem with my 1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo with the brake lights it kept popping fuses right after the ignition was turned on try putting a higher amp fuse in place of the old one that keeps blowing then check for shorts to the starter and check grounds and wires and also the transmission issue check the fluid and then if the fluid is fine change the transmission filter the filter may have not gotten replaced when the transmission was rebuilt and may be clogged or dirty

Eng. controller Fuse keeps blowing when I turn the ignition on to start my car


Have you checked your wiring to starter? It sounds like the power wire going to starter has loosened up.That would cause fuse to blow and also the way you described that the car died. Or even check to see that the red wire going to starter hasn't gotten dinged or melted by the exhaust. Anything that would cause it to short out.

Put a new starter on 2005 impala go to start car now it wont crank over its a new starter battery is new windows wind down radio works just wont crank


first i would recheck all conections and make sure all on right even on the starter senoid / and on most cars thier is a starter relay and fuse wich should be in the fuse panel box under the hood should have some very large maxi fuses and smaller ones starter fuse should be a maxi fuse which is the larger ones if u have the owners manual for this car it will help locate this fuse quicker good luck

40 amp ignition fuse blew. I replaced the fuse and now the lights all go on when the key is turned on but the vehicle will not start...or even try to start. The battery is fully charged.


The 40 amp maxi fuse in the underhood junction block (According to the information I have, there is only one 40 amp fuse in there..) goes directly to the ignition switch. From there, it goes to the buss bar in the Instrument Panel Fuse Block where it feeds several smaller fuses. It also feeds the starter relay in the Underhood Fuse and Relay Center.

My biggest concern would be: What caused the fuse to blow in the first place?

If you get nothing else from my preaching, get this:

Fuses don't blow for no reason....ESPECIALLY not a 40-amp Maxi Fuse!

I can't count how many times I have heard people say: "It's JUST a blown fuse." WHAT???

I have been at this for 35 years and I can tell you that blown fuses are reason for major concern in my book. That 40-Amp Maxi Fuse just saved your truck from burning to the ground and you need to find out why!

The only way that fuse is going to blow is if there is a direct short to ground between the Underhood Fuse and Relay Center and the Instrument Panel Fuse Block (The only "component" between these two is the ignition switch.) or if the secondary side of the starter relay circuit is shorted to ground. The secondary side of the starter relay feeds the "S" terminal of the starter solenoid. (at the starter)

I think the first place I would look for the problem would be the circuit between the starter relay and the starter. It is likely to be shorted against the exhaust or engine block. If this is the case, it most likely fried the starter relay in the process. (which is why the fuse no longer blows and the engine no longer starts)

Aftermarket remote starting units are also usually tied into this circuit. If your vehicle has one of these, it could very likely be the original source of your problem.

At any rate, there should be no rest, truck running or not, until the reason for the blown fuse is found. You will most likely get the truck running in the process of locating the reason for the blown fuse.
