Superiormind, What you need to do is lubricate the latch that holds the hood down. Look on the left side of the latch and you will see where the cable attaches. Lubricate this area while you have someone pull and push the cable from inside the vehicle as the cable will sometimes seize up. You may have to move the cable from the outside as well. Once this is done you should have no problem closing and locking the hood. Good luck with this.

Gas smell inside the cab only 1999 ford explorer

If you can get a good fuel system pressure monitor, then you would want to hook it up to the test tap on the fuel rail. You would do this to see if the pressure is bleeding down.

Now some of the FRAM brand gas filters were defective and did not securely lock in place. Look under the vehicle to see if there are drips or wetness on the gas lines.

Also check the gas fill tube to the tank. Sometimes the metal clamp securing the tube will rust off and the fill tube can leak.

Disconnect the battery terminals and have the engine off and cooled down. Locate the horn under the hood on the front of the vehicle. I had a minor accident and the car hood is misaligned.

Block of wood, and hammer to hook the hood to pull back in to shape and lots of elbow grease. Be safe and make sure the hood latches are secure to the locks to ensure the hood does not open while your driving, and if your lucky. You may find a hood for your explorer at the salvage yard for $50.00 painted the same colour as yours. Good luck.

How do I adjust the hood alignment, hood will close but not lock.

Why do you need to do this?
If you have the same hood, look at the bolt impression left at all four bolts align them so you will not see the old bolt shadow.
If you have a different senerio, put the bolts on almost tight but a little loose, enough that when you close the hood(gently) the hood and the bolts will align together.pop the hood and lock down the bolts tight.

    1999 Ford Explorer Door Locks

Unfortunately, This is a very common problem with Ford Explorers! Ford replaces the locks when it encounters this issue. I managed to unseize my passanger door and tailgate lock, but the drivers door lock is broken beyond repair. You can purchase new remotes for your explorer and program them very easily. Just google ford key fobs...
