Question about Dodge Stratus

3 Answers

My 2001 Stratus Coupe R/T is having electrical issues. The battery and brake light flash or stay on, the service engine soon light stays on and the car sputters while driving. The heat/ac is also not working and makes the car sputter more when I try to turn the heat/ac on to get any type of air... do you know what kind of electrical problem this could be and around how much to fix?

A diode may be out in the alternator and will cause many electrical issues especially the rough running and alt light coming on.

Your car running rough or shutting down when you use your ac/heat is more the likely your IAC (idle air control) valve. No need to fret, you can fix this yourself with $5 and limited to no experience. It is located directly under you throttle body. You will need to remove the section of intake tube that clamps to throttle. Small part that has three bolts in it. Disconnect electrical connection, remove three bolts, and spray IAC with mass air flow cleaner, (available at any auto part's store) put back togeather and it will run like a new car. As far as the charging system and brake light goes, 90% of the time those two lights flashing is alternator failing. Check engine light is probably O2 sensor go to auto zone and they will run the code for free. Good luck.

All of these lights can indicate different problems. The battery light normally indicates the battery is NOT being charged. This could be a bad alternator, bad battery or wire connections between the two. Look at the battery connections first. The may be corroded, if so clean them and coat them with grease. Always disconnect the MINUS connection first. The break light indicates something wrong with the breaking system. Could be as simple as low break fluid, especially if the light comes on when you stop or in a turn. Beyond that there could be numerous more complicated and serious problems that should be looked at by a competent mechanic. The same with the service engine light. The engine needs to have the systems checked to see what is causing the light to be on. This light likely indicates the cause of the poor performance and the lack of power. That is also the likely cause of the engine trouble when you the try to run the AC or heat. No way to know the cost without knowing the exact problem(s). Take the car to a mechanic you trust and have all these systems checked. There are good reasons for these lights to be on your dash and they should not be ignored. Good luck.

Service engine soon stay on the ligth?

Service engine soon is telling you to check computer for trouble codes. You can sometimes disconnect battery for 10 seconds and codes will erase. It is a good idea to have them checked. Most Auto stores like Autozone will check for free. You may have to call around. Most repair shops will charge $40 to check.

Cruise Control on 2001 Dodge Stratus SE stopped working. The green light comes on but it won't work. The fuse isn't labeled in either of the fuse boxes to see if that is the problem and I didn't get the...

Have you recently had any brake work done? I had a 05' freestyle that did the same thing.. when you tap the brake the cruise kicks off right? so if your brake pedal is sticking or not returning fully to the up position, the cruise will immediately kick off like you applied the brake. Check to see if your brake lights are staying on when you release the brake. Let me know what happens, please and good luck.

Service engine soon light stays on how do i turn this off?

you will need to take it in for a diagnosis scan. this Will scan for trouble codes that will direct you and your mechanic to the issue at hand. it will also tell you how to fix this issue as well. once this problem is fixed, the light will shut off.

In most cases, it a failed sensor of some sort. most auto zones will scan the ecm for free.

Service engine soon & brake light stays on

the service engine light is prob due to the oxygen sensor being damaged, not replace or you having the catalytic converter taken off---just messing with you. start at auto zone and have then do a free code read then go from there. you should troubleshoot the low fluid level switch for your brake fluid. unplug it and see if the light goes off and if it doesn't jump the two terminals on the harness. oh the car will have to be running.
