Question about 2001 Cadillac DeVille

1 Answer

99 deville, runs for a bit then kills after batt was fully charged. Both battery and alternator were taken out and tested good. Receiving "battery not charging" on display. Terminals cleaned and connections tight. What can I try next? Is it possible the batt is bad once a load is put on it from turning over the caddy?

I did an oil change an tune up for 83 Buick lesabre with not enough oil. All connections hooked up except alternator. But it won't crank. What should I do? An it turns slow when try to crank

1ST make sure the oil level is up to spec. make sure all connections are connected & either charge the battery or boost the battery. If a boost doesn't do the trick, try leaving the booster cables hooked up with the other car running for a few minutes & try starting again. Try that battery charge next. If no luck, u may need a batt, Have a battery voltage test done / load test & starter draw test when fully charged. If u get it running have the alternator checked & ckd for shorts. Good Luck

2000 Ford Ranger is killing alternators immediately after install

the best way to test an alternator is with a load test-partstores dont do that--battery may still have a bad cell even tho it tested good--an alternator can burn up charging a completely dead batt--make sure batt reads at 12.6volts and no less-----if it reads say at 12.3 its only 50% charged!

was the alternator bench tested? or tested on the car? if the alternator tests good off the car and the wiring has been tested, the ground may be loose or disconnected.

I have a 99 jeep wrangler and have had 2 new batteries and the battery keeps going dead...any solutions?

Hey there, There could possibly be a problem with the internals of the Alternator. The voltage regulator controls the alternator output and knows when the battery needs charging and when it is full. It keeps the electronic systems in the car at about 14-14.8v. If it is faulty it can over charge the battery and ruin it in a short period of time. Have an auto electrician check the alternator before you replace the battery again.Hope that helps

You could have a faulty alternator. There is no reset procedure. What is your voltage reading?

How do you change the alternator on a 1997 cadillac deville?

You are on the right track...the battery will only allow the car to run a few minutes if the alternator is not re-charging the battery while running...most parts stores will test your alternator for free...on your Caddy, the alternator is held on by three mounting sure to disconnect your battery before working around the alternator. Inspect your alternator belt...(serpentine) may also need replaced...some used to call this belt the 100,000 mile belt...I recommend changing mush sooner...check for cracks and worn edges etc. Hope this helps.

Good batt & new alternator.. but battery keeps losing charge

Make sure all connections at alternator are attached. On some, the regulator is inside the computer and if bad, requires computer change.
