There are few possibilities that are to be checked. The crank shaft position sensor, the fuel pump, the fuel filter the starter .Many a times this parts get hot and engine shuts off and cause this problem. --------------- Also get the ignition coil checked.---------- First of all get the fuel pressure checked and voltage at ignition coil checked this will help to confirm the problem.------------ thanks.helpmech.

Check & replace if necessary the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor.

The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor on the 4.7L engine is installed into a water jacket at front of intake manifold near rear of generator. The ECT sensor is located near the front of the intake manifold.

While specific testing needs to be done with a diagnostic scanner, you can do a basic test of the ECT sensor with a DVOM(digital voltmeter). Check voltage when engine first started when cold and observe voltmete as engine temperature warms up. Voltage should drop from approx 2.5-5v cold to less than 1.5v when engine is warmed up. If it doesnt drop, then replace the ECT sensor.

My 2003 jeep grand cherokee will crank and run fine. drive a couple miles stop at light will shut off want crank back up .let it set a while will start right up.

Check the crank position sensor. If this goes out, when it gets hot, the sensor will think the crank/timing is in the wrong position. They did this to prevent engine damage in the event that your timing is off. However, when the sensor gets old, as it gets hot, it malfunctions shutting off the engine. Then, when it cools down a bit, all is well.
IF IT IS THE CRANK SENSOR, REPLACE IT IMMEDIATELY. Repeatedly trying to start an engine w/the CPS out can throw the timing off. This happened to a friend's Kia Sepphia once and it locked up her engine.

My Jeep Grand Cherokee car cuts of

Likely the ignition system is shutting down. Code tests must be done as well as individual component tests, using a digital multi-meter and a manual such as chilton or haynes as a guide. The small explosion you hear likely is from a small amount of unburned fuel entering the hot exhaust and exploding right after the ignition is off. Once you fix the cause of shutdown that will disappear. The main items I'd test first are the crank sensor, cam sensor and the ignition switch itself, any of which can cause a shutdown. Also make sure the fuel pump isn't getting hot and turning itself off.

235k miles. cut off one time going down road, immediately restarted. a week later after cutting off would not restart in 8 long cranks. 5 mins later cranked. next morning after starting 2 different time...

I have seen crank sensors go and leave no codes, but, likely the fuel pump is going away...they get hot and seize, then cool down and work again. I would not replace either without proper testing only because parts are expensive and there are other heat sensitive components in there. (coil etc) Be aware that it will check out good if it is running right while tests are being done.

Runs fine for approx 15 mins, then stalls out and wont start again

sounds like coil problem, coils will start cold then get hot and stop. when coil cools will crank up and run till it gets hot, try to replace the ignition coil, dont think it would be a crank sensor, try a coil, thanks robert b.

Replaced radiator on 2008 jeep now gets hot & cuts off

I think it is related to the cooling system, still having air in it. Make sure the heater is running/on when your running the engine. Could be a faulty ECT sensor (engine coolant temp.) but proof it out. proof it out, remove the sensor and see if there is air behind it and see if the sensor is within parameters.

Jeep grand cherokee stalls after warming up

You need to check components again when the engine is hot and in no-start condition, otherwise, you will get bad info...obviously whichever part is doing this works fine cold. ones that react most to heat are crank pickup, ignition coil and the fuel pump.(bad ones get hot and bind up)
