Check the ignition timing or crank position sensor as the pinging sound may be detonation from incorrect timing. You may be a tooth out when you refitted the new belt

The serpentine belt and power stering belt won't stay oon they come off as soon a you start the car, 1985 Porsche 944


while the belt is off, engine off, check for a frozen pulley-except for the crankshaft, one is probably locked up or makies a lot of noise/wobbles when turned by hand.. Also, look at the pulleys and see if they 'line up' by looking at them from the side.

Porsche 944 1985 after switching batteries my car won't start but all other electrical systems work


COULD BE BAD BATTERY GROUND CABLE.YOU GETTING POWER PROBABLY NOT ENOUGH TO TURN STARTER.IF BATTERY CABLES OVER 10 TO 15 YEARS OLD REPLACE THEM SEE WHAT HAPPENS.

definitely use a high mileage, synthetic oil for foreign made cars appropriate for a 4 cylinder engine.

Find and remove the horn fuse or relay to keep the horn from blasting and attempt to start the vehicle. If it starts inspect the clearance between the horn switch and its ground contact. If there is a factory alarm, which I doubt, that has been reset by disconnecting the battery/battery going dead then call your local Porsche dealer for additional advice.
